Fingerprints of the Gods: The Evidence of Earth's Lost Civilization | [Graham Hancock]

Fingerprints of the Gods: The Evidence of Earth's Lost Civilization

Using tools as varied as archaeo-astronomy, geology, and computer analysis of ancient myths, author Graham Hancock presents a compelling case to suggest that the story of mankind is far older than we have previously believed. And as the truth about prehistory and the real meaning of ancient myths and monuments is revealed, it becomes apparent that a warning has been handed down to us: a terrible cataclysm that afflicts the Earth at irregular intervals of time may be about to occur.

What the Critics Say

"A fancy piece of historical sleuthing...intriguing and entertaining and sturdy enough to give a long pause of thought." (Kirkus Review)

    "Too short"

The subject matter is fascinating but the abridgement cuts out too much.

"Abridged edition is way too short"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The time was well spent as it piqued my interest in the full print version of the work.

What other book might you compare Fingerprints of the Gods to and why?

Chariots of the Gods due to similar content

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I did not observe any detraction owing to the narrator

Did Fingerprints of the Gods inspire you to do anything?

I am inspired to acquire and read the full edition of the book

    Any additional comments?

The abridged edition was too short and I found the continuity of the story suffered. I could not follow a line through the presentation. I found the subject matter fascinating and the narration good from a storytelling perspective; however, as stated, the abridged content rendered the whole experience less effective than it might otherwise have been were it unabridged.

"All of a sudden not so crazy."
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fingerprints of the Gods?

Stars used as a clock? Making man kind smart 15,000 years ago, go on sir I think you have something there. The best part of this book is that no where does aliens appear making ideas that could seem outrageous more legitimate when similar ideas are plagiarized from fingerprints of the gods.

    "Excellent book!"
Where does Fingerprints of the Gods rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Graham's research is correct, his information is very interesting, and it adds tremendously to the knowledge of mankind's history. The story was presented well.

What does Peter Reckell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I don't have time to read. Peter presented the material in an interesting way, and it was very easy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, I did.

    "Abridged Version Tempts and Teases"

I encourage you to get this version even though it is a crime to try and abridge this work. It is still pleasant to listen to and though the jumping around can be a bit jarring it will give you a good overview of the very large work it represents. If you find yourself interested then I encourage you to get the real book for a thorough read. It is engaging and well footnoted and can be found very cheaply since it is an older work. If you can I would try to find the most recent version from around 2001. The authors text remains the same but he has changed many appendixes and footnotes to better represent current research and info.

"What is going on with our planet?"
If you could sum up Fingerprints of the Gods in three words, what would they be?

    People get ready..

What did you like best about this story?

I read the book a few years ago and really liked it. For me, there is something about hearing it that makes it that much better. The research makes this story so unique.

What about Peter Reckell’s performance did you like?

He did ok but I prefer the authors own voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

History is about to repeat itself again.

    Any additional comments?

Great audio book even though at times it can get a little dull. If they would of used the authors voice it would of been different. Critical thinkers will love it!

What made the experience of listening to Fingerprints of the Gods the most enjoyable?

I love hearing and learning of the theories about how our human past really played out. This book is largely an account of mysterious remains of ancient cultures. It's read quite well

If you could sum up Fingerprints of the Gods in three words, what would they be?

I really enjoyed this book. It has a very interesting perspective that is hard to deny. It just dives into how much we really don't know about earth's history and the universe.

    "Not the book for me"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Maybe someone who has studied history on central America

What do you think your next listen will be?

Im not sure. I just finished the Hobbit so maybe something along those lines.

Have you listened to any of Peter Reckell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never heard them before but he was ok.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The audio was very clear and easy to understand.
