©2006 Ram Dass; (P)2006 Sounds True
I am a child of the 50's and 60's. I do not know if this makes Ram Dass especially able to speak the language needed to clear away the junk and let the oneness flow through a heart, but he is the finest speaker I have absorbed in many years of listening to keep the vision clear. Tibetan monks very inspirational, clear, worth the time... but Ram Dass is truly western and speaks from this spot making the other realms accessible straight through the heart. This recording is clear and divided into sessions easy to step away from and return to with ease.
Ram Dass is now one of my new all time favorites in this category.
He has a way of explaining very complicated ideas in a very simple way.
I don't normally write reviews, but for this one I had to because I enjoyed it so much.
Ram Dass is an excellent raconteur and this collection of speeches made over several years drives home a few key points about how to approach life. Although he sometimes does not "conclude" as we would want him to and perhaps meanders somewhat, the later parts of this are absolutely crystal clear. Enjoyable and enlightening.
I loved this and have listened to it a couple times now- each time gleaning new insights. Ram Dass is funny and lighthearted and stays true to his message over the years these recordings represent. This collection is accessible, profound and contains life altering material useful for those in the process of waking up.
Ram Dass reminds me of the the School Teacher that, on the surface, appears to do very little Class work but has this personal connection with each individual that gets them to learn almost without knowing it and perhaps even despite themselves in some cases! Many of his teachings and talks are based on his own real life Experiences that he has lived through and can now speak with that authority and confidence. Add the humour into the pot and it is an excellent Life manual!
This book is certainly worth 2 or 3 full Listens as the previous Reviewer mentioned!
Thank you Ram Dass. You made me laugh :). You shown me that spiritual teaching doesn't have to be overly serious.
The way Ram Dass tells his stories is so entertaining. If you're already familiar with meditation, hinduism, buddhism, etc, then you will enjoy this book. He tells everything from his point of view and how he came to be who he is now. At the same time he talks about the different methods to achieve enlightenment. I've listened to the audiobook twice already and I've learned something new.
I found the instructions on the breathing exercise extremely helpful and descriptive. The same goes for the other methods to meditating.
Ram Das is masterful. Each time I listen, the spiritual work goes deeper. He has a genuine human appeal combined with deep wisdom. Love you Ram Das!
These talks are true gems. They rank right up there with the talks of Alan Watts, Joseph Campbell and Jack Kornfield.
Ram Dass it's very grounded, speaks from his experience and it's clear about awakening being only the beginning.
An insightful collection of lectures from the 1970-1990's, I immensely enjoyed listening to these individually. Then, stopping to ponder the content. Not a child of the sixties, I found some of the lingo "trip, rush, turn on" at first a little dated, but then charming. Perhaps made some of the information more accessible to some of us in Western cultures. Wonderfully prods one into examining our culture, the human condition, and most importantly, the big picture. And what's important, and what's not. And taking things too seriously does not help anything.......
I will definitely listen to more of this visionary's recordings.
What makes this such a treat is the way Ram Dass is so honest about his experiences and not afraid to talk about uncomfortable subjects that are of course just him being honest and authentic. It is so great to hear a mix of old and more modern recordings, prior to his stroke in the late 1990's. It is full of gems...
"Superb Ram Dass collection"
One of the best reads for people looking for meaning of life, interested in theology and philosophy. On my player on constant repeat. In sad moments of my life this is the first book I reach out to and I start smiling within a few minutes.
"Profound wisdom in the search for truth"
This is my first experience with Ram Dass. He has a great skill communicating complex and esoteric ideas that are so profound they can really begin to shift your view of the world, and in an effortless manner backed up with stories, humour and knowledge. If you can overcome parts which I felt that he and the audience come across as a little pious (but I am sure this may just be my misinterpretation) then I think you will find this as powerful as I did. There is a little repetition over the 7 and a bit hours but you can just skip on. I'm constantly listening to this over and over. I love it. It is essential listening for anyone who still has those burning questions about our existence. It's not easy to comprehend but that's what makes it so intriguing. Enjoy xx
