Publisher's summary

Not only do I believe that it is possible to maintain moral standards without the crutch of religion but I would argue that it is the only way to achieve true goodness.

Disproving Christianity and Other Secular Writings compiles popular and lesser-known arguments against the principles established by the Christian canon. Using a phenomenological approach to build his case based on in-depth study at the University of California, Santa Barbara McAfee analyzes the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament doctrine to build a logical and reasonable case against their validity. From contradictions between lived and portrayed religions to factual errors within the texts themselves, no stone is left unturned in this fully updated and expanded refutation of Christianity.

Short and informative

So many interesting theological and historical facts. This book should be read and discussed in mixed groups of theists and atheists.

Didn't go as in depth as I was hoping

I was hoping for more depth. This is very brief and reads more like a bulleted list of problems than a deep analysis. Also, the narrarator mispronounced a word from a very popular verse from 1 Corinthians, saying that "love always preserves" instead of "love always perseveres".

Not Empirical

I thought it would involve more hard data from history, instead it was a bunch of logical arguments focusing on induction.

Well-reasoned, rational responses to irrational claims

Christians - especially those of American persuasion - seem to think their faith is so reasonable, rational, and perfect that it should be foisted upon EVERYONE simply because they represent a majority. How forgetful they are of our country's founding by people fleeing that VERY SAME persecution from another part of the world.

The central book of Christianity is positively teeming with contradictions and impossibilities to say nothing of horrific cruelty and guidance for profoundly immoral behavior and beliefs. For every commandment or advisement to be kind and generous there are three supporting cruelty, racism, sexism, misogyny, murder, infanticide, genocide, and slavery. It really is a guidebook for evil. This book points out a few of its many, MANY fatal flaws.

Excellent read. Highly recommended.

Short, but Good Introduction to the Subject

If you find yourself having to defend your lack of faith in Christianity, this book is a great introduction on how to do so. McAfee goes over the basic arguments that can indeed disprove the religion to anyone who isn't already a believer.

A must read

The author does a great job laying out the many contradictions and hypocrisies in the bible.

Brilliantly entertaining and educational!

This book is a spectacular read. What sets it apart from so many others is the tremendous knowledge of its author.

The voice performance is THE WORST.

If you want the experience of a cheesy DJ putting his lips against your ear and mumbling from the back of his throat, then this book is for you.

Got questions?

I've listened to a number of these books pointing out the contradictions in Christianity and the bible. This one is just as good as the others.. They all help to clarify questions one might have in their mind, if one is open enough to accept facts and isn't afraid to question the status quo. If you don't want your faith tested or questioned, then simply don't listen/read this kind of book.

generic info but organzed well

the book is written well and organized but, as it is a short book, if i was still a christian, it wouldnt think any argument was a home run because they are the most basic athiest arguments. worth listening to but not the best ive ever heard
