This book presented basic principles of being a Godly man. As a beginner in this area, it presented many things that I needed to consider and adjust in my life as a father and in my obedience to God's will. I would recommend it to anyone.
I don't have the print version.
For me, the most memorable moment was the section on what I need to be for my wife. This book really puts God's standard on the table. In the churches I have been too in Maine, the family really has never been stressed. What I have seen from the pulpit is the family is second to ministry and this is wrong. Even in bible school, it was totally neglected. This book gave me a direction to go in or as I like to teach at church, a pattern that is God's pattern. It has changed my life for the better and those around me.
There are so many. It is hard to pin point but I will sum up this way. Before I got this audio book, I had been teaching in church that we had to master our positions in the family. By mastering, I mean have them down like a professional ball player would have his position down. This book starts off that way and basically, the entire book is encouraging us to master our postion as a Godly man. I just gave a panaramic picture of "my favorite" scene, Become a professional at my position.
No, it is six hours plus.
I'll say this, I am a pastor. Since I started focusing on God and our relationship with him first in church, family second no matter what, friends and other parts of life third, our families are being transformed. In some situations, prayer is all that has been done as we can't witness to our families. The prayers and this new attitude of the value our families have to us, is transforming the lives of the people we care about most. When I began to focus on this, the Lord had me teach that the ones we care about most are often the ones we take the most for granted. Put them in a casket and the real value begins to surface. We have all taken it seriously and the effect is incredible. Here is why Jesus had me go that way, the first attack was on the husband and wife, then the kids. We are restoring God's natural order or pattern. When the pattern is right, life becomes so much better. One very smart business lady who comes to church wants to serve Christ desperately but she told me she had never been taught her role as a Godly wife. Well, all I can say is this, as she moves into her Godly spot as a woman, her marriage is becoming what many woman wish they had. The difference is she is wanting desperately to serve Christ his way and the results are incredible to watch.
This book would serve better as an encouraging self-help book for humanists. It is FAR from a Christian themed book and is woefully mis-categorized as one. The overall theme of love is great and encouraging, but the road it takes to find that love is by labeling the God depicted in the bible as a ridiculous and inaccurate representative of this speaking God.
Entertaining, but I fear for those unfamiliar with the bible that read it, as it is sure to confuse them and possibly turn them away from God.
