Publisher's summary

A former religious radio host raised in the cradle of Christianity, Seth Andrews, battled his own doubts for many years. His attempts to reconcile faith and the facts led him to a conclusion previously unthinkable, and this once-true believer ultimately became host of one of the most popular atheist communities on the internet.

As a newly deconverted atheist, this book mirrored a lot of my own experiences with family and friends.

Why I recommend this book

I have listened to this book twice and continue to go back to it often. I love that this is read by Seth Andrews. He is highly engaging. His voice projects and easy to listen to. And most importantly, this book is BEAUTIFULLY written. Some of the chapters will really grab hold of you. I cannot begin to explain how each chapter amazed me. You will find yourself constantly thinking, "I always felt that way but I could never articulate my thoughts, but I wholeheartedly agree!" Seth Andrews has helped me explain myself as an Atheist. I could not do that before discovering work. I love this book and I cannot wait to read the others!

exceptionally well written, beautifully performed

The story of Seth Andrews' deconversion from Christianity is both compelling in its honesty and lovingly sensitive to those who find comfort in their faith. The author recounts his tale with self depicting humor. He is incredibly open and genuine about his experience. Andrews is a brilliant story teller. He reads his story with personal appeal to his listeners, employing all the skills from his seasoned radio career.

A lovely listen.

Seth is indeed a great communicator, and this was a very enjoyable book. Both his personal story and broader outlook are equally well represented, and the fact that he's a professional radio host also marries that great content with a stellar narration experience.

Think for yourself

I’ve listened to Seth for about a year or so as I walk down my own deconstruction path. My takeaway from all the reading, listening, watching, (and writing I’ve done) is that my life is mine. No one else’s. I can and will think for myself. Unlike the religionist, the atheist encourages questions be asked and circular answers not be acceptable “just because”. I would recommend this audio book to anyone who is on his or her own deconstruction path.

Thank you, Seth Andrews!

Deconverted was all that I hoped for and expected. It's the story of how a fundamentalist Christian went from solid, unquestioning faith to logical, reasoning atheist. Narrating his own book, Seth gives his account in a straightforward, often humorous manner.

Though he was (forgive the expression) preaching to the choir, and though I was already familiar with a good portion of his story, I still found myself unable to quit listening for a minute. Yes. I listened nonstop from start to finish, and it was worth every second and every penny.

Deconverted is a great gift for your theist friends and family if you are unable to articulate certain aspects of your disbelief to them. I strongly encourage theists who are under the impression that atheists are unhappy, immoral and hold deep hatred for their god to read or listen to this book. It may not "deconvert" you, but it should radically alter their perspectives about why atheists are atheists. After all, Seth's deconversion story is very similar to many atheists' own journeys from faith to skepticism.

A former Christian finds his way to reality.

Would you consider the audio edition of Deconverted to be better than the print version?

Never read the printed version but the audio was done very well. Kept my interest throughout and was often funny.

What other book might you compare Deconverted to and why?

First book I have read of it's kind so I can't compare.

Which scene was your favorite?

I actually enjoyed the whole book. I do wish he had dealt even further into what had made him change his mind having been so indoctrinated for so many years.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really. I have been an atheists since 13years old and have my own reason for why I am. However I have often wondered if someone who had been so involved in their religion as he apparently was, could change their beliefs and become an atheists.

Any additional comments?

Well worth the credit. In fact I plan on buying the book so I can refer to it when needed.
