This book scared me as I got into it. I am/was a lukewarm Christian. I am now trying to figure out what to do next. I can't put into words how I feel. I am excited & frightened. You have to read this book. It has changed my life forever. The Lord has changed my life. I am in love with the Lord. I am not ready to stand before Him though.
This book was recommended to me and far exceeded my expectations. In the first chapter I was thinking, is this a book tailored to teens? Using words like "awesome" and "crazy" and linking back to a web site, would I relate?
I did of course quickly end up relating to Chan. He is a person who obviously has a unique insight into the love of God and calls to action our role as a Christian.
I found nothing of which I could disagree, scripture passages are quoted to back every observation.
I particularly enjoyed the short stories of different Christians told throughout the book also used to make his point.
If you are considering this read.. go for it!
for a more meaningful walk with Christ, and want to explore it with someone who provides no-nonsense Bible-based information rather than flowery prose, you will benefit from this book. While the author's voice is a bit monotone, his words are anything but flat. Inspiring, and worth the listen.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. The author's down-to-earth, conversational style is refreshing. He encourages his readers to step out of spiritual ruts and to pursue a passionate relationship with God. Since God has shown such great love toward us, what else can our hearts do but to pursue him with love in response? I didn't find any profound or earth-shaking concepts here, but it was an extremely inspirational read. As a Christian, if you haven't read a book for some time that calls you back to your love relationship with God, you need to read this one. If you're looking for a good devotional title, this one would be an excellent choice as well. It's certainly worth the money and time spent. There is absolutely no pretense here - the author simply opens his heart to his readers. That openness and candor is the main strength of this volume.
If you apply the principles and heart attitude this book is talking about you will be changed. Francis Chan has the heart of a New Testament believer. This book will change your prayer life, your view of God and all that He means to you. As well as what you think about every move you make personally, financially and spiritually every day. This book will change the way you relate to one another at church, it will change your church for that matter. Read it then live it and find everything you ever wanted in the life you signed up for the day you were born again.
What if people actually did what Jesus said? What a concept.
Sell your fancy houses and cars and feed the poor.
This book rocks.
Instead of teaching people to try and be nice it teaches them to actually do what Jesus said.
So much to learn, and so little time to sit down and read. Thanks Audible.
It is so easy to customize our views of God to fit the way we want to live. In this book Francis Chan does a great job of bringing us back to the fact that Jesus' words were very clear about how we should live as his followers. I really enjoyed listening to every minute of Crazy Love. It was well-written, used lots of stories, and above all focused on God's amazing, Crazy Love for each one of us. I wish everyone could read this book.
So I bought this book as a recommendation from a friend. Prior to this, I didn't know who Francis Chan was. I absolutely loved this book -- it changed my life, and challenged me/pushed me in a way that I desperately needed. In fact, I loved it so much that I'm listening to it again. This book also prompted me to go online and look up sermons and videos by Pastor Chan.
Wow, though. The reading? That was tough. I really wish he would've used a professional narrator. Before I knew who he was (when I first began listening to it), I thought, "This guy sounds like a serious, quiet, introverted high school student who had to get up and read a report in front of a class." But then I saw the videos of Pastor Chan's sermons, and he was like an entirely different person! He was dynamic and animated and exuberant in his speech. Maybe he's just not that great of a reader, or maybe he was off of his game. I don't know. I can understand now how his devoted followers would've wanted him doing the reading, but I felt it took away from the impact of the book. And it made it tough to get through, even though the message was extremely compelling.
I hope the books keep coming! I will buy them. I do hope, though, that he either hires a reading coach or allows the publisher to choose an appropriate narrator.
Tell us about yourself!
This is a very thought provoking book. It is humbling, compelling, challenging, encouraging, soul searching, and renewing. In my opinion everyone who claims the title of Christian should read / listen to it...perhaps more than once.
This book is really enjoyable AND challenging! So much 'food for thought', I could hear it 100 times and take a new thing away each time! Really worth a listen. Although this is not always easy listening! I found some level of concentration is needed! Very easy to understand, too. Really great book!
I listen to this at night as go to sleep and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
His words are powerful and I have used some of it in my sermons in church.
