The recent economic meltdown has cast a harsh new light on these pursuits. In a matter of months, fortunes, marriages, careers, and a secure retirement have disappeared for millions of people. No wonder so many of us feel lost, alone, disenchanted, and resentful.
But the truth is that we made lesser gods of these good things - gods that can't give us what we really need. There is only one God who can wholly satisfy our cravings - and now is the perfect time to meet him again, or for the first time.
The Bible tells us that the human heart is an "idol-factory," taking good things and making them into idols that drive us. In Counterfeit Gods, Keller applies his trademark approach to show us how a proper understanding of the Bible reveals the unvarnished truth about societal ideals and our own hearts.
This powerful message will cement Keller's reputation as a critical thinker and pastor, and comes at a crucial time - for both the faithful and the skeptical.

Pastor Timothy Keller reminds us that only God is our source of true joy and satisfaction, everything else are counterfeit Gods.
,,,it really puts a lot of things into perspective. It's so easy to lose your way in this world we live in, and this book clearly defines a lot of the dangers that are set to derail us as individuals. For those that already have accepted that there is a God, and that Jesus has the best message in that respect, this clarifies the 2 most important focal points we should have in order to obtain all we want and need in this life: to love God above all, and our neighbors as ourself. A 'must-have' book for any honest truth seekers. Excellently read
As always, Keller is super helpful here in addressing the heart with neither legalism nor liberalism--but grace.
I loved the way Keller defined "gods" and "worship" in broad terms that made it easy for modern listeners to identify false idols and the ways in which we can center our lives around them.
Very relevant and helpful in seeing our proclivity toward idolatry. Even good things can become idols.
Very thorough analysis of the human condition and our fallen nature
This is serious stuff and Mr Parks reading doesn't detract from the content. He's one of the best I've heard
The many faces of idolatry
Warning: Only for people who are serious about exposing the things standing between themselves and God
Because of timing, I only "listen" to books, so Im not sure
This was non fiction so I didn't have to worry about character changes, he read clearly and the speed was perfect.
The same as the book Counterfit Gods
I love Tim Keller, he is the modern day C.S. Lewis
The content was apropos for a world stuck in the grind of seeking the next success in various activities and exposes them for what they are in our lives - idols.
Keller is articulate, uses great illustrations and applies Biblical truths masterfully to those who live today.
Tom Parks did a fine job, but having heard Tim Keller, it was odd listening to his book with another person's voice.
