"Richard J. Foster has 'found' the spiritual disciplines that the modern world stored away and forgot, and has excitedly called us to celebrate them." (Eugene H. Peterson, author of Leap Over a Wall)
Great book for those who would like practical, real ways, to take your Christian walk to the next level. Be carful your life may change....and you will like it that way!
Very easy to listen to. I did not want it to end. I will definetly
listen to many times and apply these life chageing principles to my life. Best ever on having a closer relationship to God. I highly recommend!!
I won't compare the audio to the print version, yes I have both and use both for different purposes. While at work I listen and during study time in a small group at church, but I also listen when it comes time to doing homework and I also read the print version.
So I like both for different and the same reasons. It all depends on whether you are visual or audio being.
The Holy Spirit is always my favorite character during study because He leads us into all truth and will help me to remember. In this listen you clearly can feel the Holy Spirit showing you how to walk in these Disciplines.
Sound - and being able to apply the sound with the words, you can hear them, they don't get muddled with other books you read, because audio is personalized to the story teller.
ReTHINK Your LIfe or
Disciplines are a necessity
In the same way we have work ethics, and morals for our personal life we really need to look at these Disciplines for our Spiritual life.
Pastor Methodist Church of Mexico
Diferentes from other books about discipleship, this offers practical ways to become a real disciple. It doesn't represent my Wesleyan view of salvation but it increases the posibility to obtain holiness here on earth.
Pleasantly surprised at how it ministered to me, I continue to recommend and finally I was most impacted by the subjects of meditation, fasting and worship. Narrator was pleasant to listen to.
This is a great introduction to spiritual disciplines. It's the abridged version, so it is an overview. You would want to go through the material several times and in more depth to really dig in to any of the practices, but this is a great starting point.
The author is also the performer. He brings lots of meaning and personality to the performance, making it engaging and pleasant to listen to.
There is no story here, per se, as it is a how-to and why-to book.
"No problem with the audio quality"
I was reticent about buying this audiobook because of another review complaining of the audio quality. I had no issue with this at all.
However, it is slightly frustrating that the 4 recording sections do not match any of the divisions within the written book (eg, the chapters). This appears to simply be an old cassette recording that has now been made available online.
"Terrible recording quality."
Sadly I must advise you not to buy this book.
It sounds like a recorded phone call and is completely inaudible in places.
Audible shouldn't sell books of such poor recording quality it does not reflect well on them and what they think of their customers.
