Publisher's summary

Learn how to find fulfillment and still your mind through the teachings of Buddha.

This book contains a brief overview of Buddhism. Like many heroic stories, the tale of this religion starts with one man's quest. Siddhartha Gautama was no ordinary man. He was a prince who gave up riches and a life of comfort in order to pierce the veil of body, mind, and spirit. With his fearless confidence and deep compassion for others, he achieved what few before him had ever known. He broke the chains of hectic mortality and found the quiet bliss of immortality.

First we look at the meaning of Buddhism, not only relative to the quest of personal, spiritual freedom but also in the context of other religious philosophies. Then we look at the humble roots of Buddhism as it grew out of Hinduism to become its own unique path toward the goal of all great religions - inner peace and greater spiritual significance. After a brief history of Buddhism, we look at the two branches of this great religion (Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism) and two sub-branches of Mahayana (Tibetan and Zen Buddhism). In chapter seven we take on the provocative subjects of self, karma, bardo, and reincarnation - all from the viewpoint of Buddhism and your author's experiences with it. Next we look at Buddhism compared to some other religions or spiritual philosophies. And finally we look at the impact Buddhism has had on the West.

Within this book you'll find the answers to questions and topics such as:

  • The meaning of Buddhism
  • Buddhist history and roots in Hinduism
  • Mahayana Buddhism
  • Theravada Buddhism
  • Tibetan Buddhism
  • Zen Buddhism
  • Self, karma, bardo, and reincarnation
  • And much more!

Highly Recommended from David

Great book about Buddhism in modern times, an amazing overview about the complete Buddhist path, way of living and meditation practice of Sutra and Tantra.
Written in modern language and therefore accessible to Western people.
A joy to read and study. Suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audible.

Bought this on a recommendation from a friend. It's informative and well-written. Not in align with the rigid beliefs I was brought up with, but somehow comforting and reassuring. It is a good book to evaluate your spiritual side whether or not you have religion in your life. This book is the beginning of a new phase in life for me.

Excellent starting to the point book.

This book is an outstanding opening point for people who are concerned in Buddhism. Elias Axmar doesn't use mysterious language and incomprehensible terms. He makes a puzzling labyrinth into a straight path. Excellent read and recommended for sure to my community.

not what I expected from title

I thought it was going to be guiding meditation instructional, or at least some deeper teachings on the topic. Very professional in it's construction, but wrongly titled. Title should have read, "Buddhism 101".

Wonderful book but still a bisic.

This audible is amazing, clear and very practical explanations of the essence of Buddha's teachings for everyone, but its for the those who are new to this.
The author is offering this for free out of a heart-felt wish to benefit others. I recommend this to all new comers. There is so much rich nectar to enjoy here and to easily incorporate into our daily lives.

My first book on Buddhism.

I can honestly say it was well worth the investment. I honestly did not pay much for this book and it was very helpful and informative. I don't think I will ever take up Buddhism but I believe and applying some of its values into my own day to day life. If you are trying to get to a higher self, or even into a higher thought , this book can definitely help guide you there. If you are really new to Buddhism then I recommend you try this one out before getting into anything else. Good luck!

Expecting one of the best, but its okay.

I have read many books on Buddhism so I already have some knowledge about it. The author's messages are redundant and sometimes he still doesn't seem to get to the point. Buddhism is not rocket science, but he struggles to explain the plain and simple.
I am unable to post five stars to it.

A fascinating, eye-opening book

Had to write something after listening to the review here. He did not state buddhas believe in coming back as the mineral. He said some Hindus do. I m trying to understanding the concept of we make our own hell more and more. The first read is like a seed. After experiencing life a little more,I come back and understand what the author is trying to say. Then go experience life more. This and his other book has changed the way I see the world, and how I interact with it. I wish he had 20 more books but then,if ever awaken,I wouldn't need them. I am finding a piece with myself and the world around me like I have never before. Not a religion ,a path to be awaken is what he tries to describe. It has changed my life. People around me has noticed and even had some say they wish they could be more like me. They can. They just need to start on the path to cold mountain.
