Publisher's summary

Powerful and compelling, this high-stakes, feminist reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood is perfect for fans of Stephanie Garber and Meagan Spooner.

For as long as 16-year-old Adele can remember, the village of Oakvale has been surrounded by the dark wood - a forest filled with terrible monsters. A forest that light itself cannot penetrate.

Unlike her fellow villagers, Adele cannot avoid the dark wood.

Adele is one of a long line of guardians: women who secretly take on the form of a wolf, in order to protect their village.

But when accepting her fate means giving up the boy she loves, abandoning the future she imagined for herself, and breaking her own moral code, she must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her neighbors safe.

Love this story so much!!

I have read the physical book and wanted to try the audible version and I can’t say how much I enjoyed it. Probably more than reading it from my own head. Listening to someone else …chills at the end!

Anyone who likes red riding hood would love this variation of the story. ❤️

Unless it's a stand alone...

As a first book in a series this was a good story. It seems like Adele's destiny is to discover something new and change things because of it.
If this book is a stand alone I would give it 2/3 stars. There would just be too many things unresolved.

I don't think you are missing out on much

I didn't have high expectations for this book and it definately was within my expections no more or less
The story os pretty straight forward about a village called Oakville where its surrounded by a dark forest filled with white warewolves who eats and infects the people of the village where Adele out main character lives .. she is 16 and wants to marry her shildhood friend .. but she discovers that she is from a line of Red Wolves and they are tasked to protect the village from the white wolves and her life changes forever
it was a nice change of pace for me but I can't say I was impressed by it .. Adele was annoying and flaky as hell and her decisions keeps getting worse as the story goes on .. and the ending was so unsatisfying and didn't leave on a good note .. I would say there more more entertining reads than this book but you may want to read it if you want somthing short and fast paced

the narrator was nice and I liked her performance .. but not the best I've heard

Disappointed

I disliked this book so much! There were a few things that irked me, but the main issue was with the MC--Adele--her relationship triangle, and almost every decision she made. I'm not sure why YA authors like to make the characters irrationally stupid, but it pains me when they do.

The writing was great, and the narrator did an excellent job. I don't know if this is a standalone, but there were many holes that needed to be filled.
