Publisher's summary

The fair Lady Julitta has a problem. She is not wealthy. She prizes her virginity. And her liege, whom she despises, is intent on rape.

Red Adam is the lord of Brentborough castle - young, impetuous, scandalous, a 12th-century hell raiser. On one of his night of drunken revelry, he abducts Julitta. Though she fends him off, keeping her virginity, he has sullied her honor. Then to the astonishment of all, he marries her.

Red Adam's Lady is a boisterous, bawdy tale of wild adventure, set against the constant dangers of medieval England. It is a story of civil war and border raids, scheming aristocrats and brawling villagers, daring escapes across the moors, and thundering descents down steep cliffs to the ocean. Its vivid details give the listener a fascinating and realistic view of life in a medieval castle and village. And the love story is an unusual one since Julitta won't let Adam get closer than the length of her stiletto. Long out of print though highly acclaimed, Red Adam's Lady is a true classic of historical fiction along the lines of Anya Seton's Katherine and Sharon Kay Penman's Here Be Dragons.

ok yes the narrator is terrible

first, screw this foreword i wasn't warned about, ruining the friggin plot in the first 2 minutes of the audio. be warned, skip chapter one.

second, this narrator makes me crazy. all the Ds are Ts and she mispronounces REALLY easy words. ugh could barely finish it.

Glad I found this classic again

Love this book, so it makes the narrator's minimal shortcomings tolerable. I remember finding a dusty copy of this book at my school growing up, so I'm happy this is finally on audio!

Engaging medieval adventure

Highly entertaining medieval adventure/romance story,
I only wish it was performed by British narrator with better understanding of regional dialects.....

one of my favorite books

As much as I love this story, the narrator did everything in her power to completely ruin it. The mispronunciation of easy names, including Red Adam and Julitta at least once each, was painful. In addition, the dialect affected was painful and in more than one case, unintelligible. She also gave some of the noble women accents of the lower class. I doubt the narrator could have done a worse job if she tried.

Perfection! narrator is excellent

I've been reading this book for years. Now I find it in Audible and the narrator is so very excellent!
OMG, how great is this?! Truly perfection
The book is all story all plot, romance with no in depth sex scenes. You have to have an imagination!!
you probably won't be sorry you read this one. I'm still happy for the Audible version!

I wish this narrator would read The Revolt of Sarah Perkins. It can be found for free on internetarchives.org.
It's about a spinster from Boston who goes to Colorado to be a teacher.

fabulous story on reread, distracting narrator

Amazing story on reread, a keeper. Narration was a disappointment, very distracting, suffering from pronunciation, meaning, pacing errors.

This story is fantastic!!!

I loved this story, both main characters were BN people would have loved to have met. I love how they worked together, how they communicated, or at they very least willing to listen to each other, something not often seen in romance novels. This was a romance book that I consider a true romance. I wish there were more stories like this. And....it had a redheaded hero.. we need more heroes that have red hair. please take the time to listen to this classic, you'll be taken for a ride and enjoy the adventure of it.

wonderful story, horrid narration

I doubt that the narrator read the script before recording. So many mis-pronounciations! Poor expression, and awful accents.
I loved this novel as a teenager and was excited to see it in Audible..... but a poor recording performance.
