Publisher's summary

From number one best-selling author Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson comes the second of three Skyward series novellas, each told from the perspective of a different member of the team back on Detritus. Listen to Alanik's story between Starsight and Cytonic.

“Don’t trust their lies. Don’t trust their false peace.” That is the warning that Alanik of the planet ReDawn gave the human pilot Spensa after Alanik’s ship crash-landed on Detritus. While accepting an invitation to meet with her people’s enemy, the Galactic Superiority, Alanik heard Spensa’s cry for help across the vastness of space, and she used her cytonic powers to hyperjump her ship to the source of that cry. What she found there was a shock - a whole planet of free humans fighting against the Superiority. Were they the allies her people desperately needed?

When she recovered from her injuries and met the friendly humans Jorgen and FM of Skyward Flight, she found that her warning to Spensa had gone unheeded by the government of Detritus, and they were considering a peace overture from the Superiority. Now having returned to ReDawn, Alanik is dismayed to learn that her own people are falling into the exact same trap.

The faction in ReDawn’s government that wants to appease the Superiority has gained the upper hand. With Alanik’s mentor, Renakin captured, she has no one to turn to but Jorgen, FM, and their friend Rig. An ancient technology may have the power to save both of their planets from disaster, but can they discover its secrets before it’s too late?

An Awesomely Funny Alien Story

This is a great addition to the Skyward series. Alenique is a compelling character, while doing the I'm an alien and humans are weird thing really well. It's funny and also has sad moments. I definitely had trouble putting this one down!

Miasma

I chuckled every time Miasma was said. I heard it in the voice of Mort Goldman from Family Guy. Other than that great story and gives great background of what’s happening while Spensa is in the nowhere. Loved it.

key elements for the main story?

I haven't read cytonic yet, but it really seems like you would be missing out on a lot of important information if you aren't aware of these side books.

good continuation of the novellas

I continue to love the Skyward novellas! Though I did leave this at the epilogue for a couple weeks. I'm not sure how that happened. These novellas continue to provide more insight to the main plotline but are so good I'm tempted to wish they were part of the series proper. But I don't know how that really would have gone. I love it all the same! I really need to crochet a doomslug soon.

A good read, but was a bit confused.

4/5. This was a good book. Gave a lot of insight about what's going on with the Superior, Hyperdrives etc.

This book gave us a detailed insight about Alanik and planet Redawn.

This book was full of action, adventure, comedy.

The only thing that I was skeptical was for Alanik, that whether she was a positive or a negative character. Thankfully that got cleared towards the end. And the other thing that hit me like punch was the ending.

Amazing performance by the narrator.

Grab the book! Enjoy, and look Skyward!

This was one Helluva Good Story, and instead of staving off my need for Cytonic (Sanderson's next book in the Skyward series), ReDawn only made things worse! I need More books, and More answers... NOW!
Yes, I know that Cytonic will be released in about a month, but now the waiting/wanting/Needing has escalated to an agonizing point!
This book (ReDawn) in the spinoff series, follows on the heels of Sunreach, this time we're following Alanik's viewpoint as she reaches out to Jorgen, the human cytonic that she met briefly on Detritus before she ran! She now realizes it'll only be with the human's aid that her beloved planet ReDawn, will remain intact... and out of Galactic Superiority Control! But, is she strong enough, tactful enough to convince Jorgen, FM, Rigs, Cobb, and the rest of Skyward flight, that she not merely going to use them for her own gain!
You're definitely gonna' want to not miss out on these novellas if you're hooked on the Skyward series, as they provide some major reveals important to the main ARC!
In addition, Suzy Jackson's narration is simply fabulous! So pick up the audiobook, listen up, and look Skyward!
