Publisher's Summary

These two much-loved series featured the late Peter Tinniswood's legendary creations Uncle Mort and Carter Brandon. As the pair tour Britain, Uncle Mort's recollections make for some hilarious moments. In Uncle Mort's North Country, having been granted a week's holiday, Carter Brandon, with his uncle Mort for company, takes a series of day trips around the north. From day one the week is quite eventful, from a burning barn and a death in a pub where they stop for a drink, to a trip to the seaside where events are equally interesting and amusing.

In Uncle Mort's South Country, these famous sons of the north find a fruitful new patch of Tinniswood country in which to air their views. Soho and Hampton Court, southern hotels and southern pubs, southern beer and southern food, that caustic one-nation philosopher, Uncle Mort, has to stomach them all. Also included in this release is an interview with Peter Tinniswood, who died in 2003.

    "A northern delight"

Peter Tinniswood has an innate ability of bringing to life seemingly two-dimentional characters and nowhere is this more apparent than in this delightful audio book.. Uncle Mort being the antithesis of all things old-world and Northern whereas Carter Brandon is part desciple/ part cheerleader; the two travel the length and breadth of our beautiful nation finding fault, meeting the local excentrics and bemoaning the passing of a bygone age, can't wait the read 'Uncle Morts Celtic Fringe'

"Uncle Mort's Nort & South Country"

I first heard this on Radio Four a number of years ago. It was one of those series which just sticks in your memory. I would drive around in my car listening to it laughing out loud. Sheer magic. Brilliantly written and great observation of the human condition!!! Go on buy it .....you won't regret!!!

    "happy memories"

I was delighted to find this work by Peter Tinniswood on Audible. I remember as a child watching the show (I didnt know you cared) on TV,with my mum and dad and remember the dry Uncle Mort raising the flag outside his shed and sitting there with his tea and the male members of the family making fantastic observations about life,. Now reading the authors brilliantly pictorial descriptive text its like yesterday. I use Audible whilst on regular hospital visits for treatment, and you really need a text which grabs the mind and takes one away from whats going on in the real world for a few retrospective moments.I would recommend this to any one with a bit of comforting nostalgia and ironic sense of humour.

    "Rib crackingly funny"

Had heard this several years ago on Radio 7, late one night . When I spotted this on Audible , just had to get it. Listened to it the same evening, tears of laughter at the dual sorrow / one liner humor. This is definitly a'' Marmite '' item , so I would suggest you listen to a sample before you buy . Well worth the price , a real listen to time and again item .

"Uncle Mort: where is he now?"

I love Peter Tinniswood's radio characters so was very pleased to find this classic on audible. What a shame there aren't more of his radio plays on audible. I expect the reason is that the BBC won't release them. The biggest shame, of course, is that Peter Tinniswood himself is dead so we won't be getting any more 'Uncle Mort', 'Brigadier' or 'Winston'. Boo hoo. :-(
