Publisher's summary

The complete second series of BBC Radio 4's award-winning sketch show - winner of the Chortle Radio Award of the Year.

In these six episodes, which make up the complete second series, you'll hear some moth-based lunacy, an awkward celestial relationship, a heart-warming tale of the days before health and safety, and how The Archers sounds to people who don't listen to The Archers - plus many other sketches featuring acute observations and wonderful wordplay.

Insomnia song.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, and I have. I basically give it a blanket recommendation to everyone I know.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Roger Watiss, founding member of the silent majority.

(Or the man with insomnia)

(Or the chess royalty)

(It is hard to choose, really)

What about John Finnemore’s performance did you like?

He is a genius. His voices--"normal, silly French, and TWO kinds of posh!"--are always engaging and well paced. The whole cast is really really good, they work together extremely well. Every scene showcases the well-tuned, well-played voice acting done by every member of the cast.

Any additional comments?

If you like quick witted comedy, with a special focus on the ridiculous nature of rhetorical flourishes, then this is the show for you. The ghost-stories-that-aren't-ghost-stories at the end of each episode may be some of the most well-crafted parodies I have ever encountered. It walks the line between the ridiculous and the absurdly clever, without losing balance or falling too far off track. The sketches are consistent AND consistently funny.

Sketch comedy to make you guffaw.

John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme is majestic sketch comedy. Witty and amusing, intelligent and extremely funny, you can't help but laugh at the brilliant word play, effortlessly enhanced by pop culture and literary references, which just make these sketches sparkle. Comic gold. You will not regret listening to this for a second.

Very Funny British Radio Show

The episodes of all three collections of this series are humorous and in some cases, sidesplitting funny! It does not matter whether you are British, the humor comes across well. The "Dog Song" about having an old and decrepit dog has had everyone who has heard it laughing out loud. The sketch where a woman talks to two of her male friends about her new beau who they both know and one of the guys says: "And he's not violent at all" has the greatest payoff line I have heard in years. Great Radio Comedy!!

Short sketches of humor

Witty writing, not necessarily laugh-out-loud humor. But, I've just come off a spate of re-listening to Cabin Pressure and after wondering why I didn't enjoy this work as much as I deeply enjoy the Cabin Pressure series is that these sketches didn't have characters to invest my attention. The bickering and underlying friendship of the Cabin Pressure characters gave the story line continuity. Plus Cabin Pressure came up with interesting plots to follow. This, instead, was just a series of sketches, yes some were intertwined, so, the experience was more like reading a book of jokes instead of a story.
With Cabin Pressure, I laughed out loud very often. With this, I noted that "Yes, that was interesting and witty."
