For a decade from 1958, "Beyond Our Ken" and "Round the Horne" ruled the airwaves with their zany humour, quick-fire scripts and eclectic ensemble of memorable characters. This release includes the first and last episodes from both groundbreaking series, restored to their fullest versions, plus conversations with the last surviving cast members Ron Moody and Bill Pertwee. There are contributions too from Andy Merriman, the son of scriptwriter Eric Merriman, and Lyn Took, the widow of scriptwriter Barry Took. To add to the fun, David Benson, writer and performer of "The Private World of Kenneth Williams", joins Jonathan James-Moore in the guise of radio butler Benson and presents some fascinating BBC memos charting the history and development of both series, as well as extracts from the diary of Kenneth Williams.
With a wealth of sketches, clips and interviews, plus four fantastic episodes, this is an unmissable treat for all fans of these two great radio comedies.

"Good, but not as good as it should be"
I always enjoyed Round The Horne although it was way before my time. I'd heard a few recordings and found it to be very funny.
I was not particularly interested in HOW it got made or WHY it got made so these parts of the recordings were a bit wasted - not particularly interesting and only very mildly amusing.
Although the episodes were mostly good, they were certainly not the best of the series and were selected purely because of their location in time - the first ever episode - which was not very good as all that as the series regulars had not been absorbed. I felt that this episode and the "bits in between" sections were not really worth the time expended listening. The "last" episode was much better and as good as any other I've heard.
The rest of the recording was in character and as lovable as Round the Horne can be. Thus, I enjoyed the majority of the recording and the four stars are deserved. However, if this series is new to you, you really should not start on this one.
