Publisher's Summary

Stephen Mangan (Green Wing, Free Agents), Alistair McGowan (Alistair McGowan's Big Impression) and Sophie Winkleman (Peep Show, Red Dwarf) star in this fantastical new BBC Radio 4 surreal science-fiction comedy by Richard Pinto (The Armstrong & Miller Show) and Anil Gupta (The Office).

Stephen stars as fantasy novelist Sam, who is whisked off to a Tolkien-style parallel universe by a noble elf, a sexy warrior princess, and a feisty dwarf called Dean. It seems that Sam's dog is 'The Chosen One' destined to save 'Lower Earth' from the evil Lord Darkness (Alistair McGowan).

For fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Lord of the Rings, this is an epic story of adventure, kinship, romance - and dog biscuits. ElvenQuest also stars Darren Boyd (Saxondale, Smack the Pony) as Vidar the Elf Lord; Kevin Eldon (Hyperdrive, Big Train) as Dean the Dwarf; and Dave Lamb (Moving Wallpaper) as Amis, 'The Chosen One'.

This is the complete third series of the six-part BBC Radio 4 series, produced by Sam Michell.

"Good, but not as good as the previous 2 series"

While I love the ElvenQuest series, you can tell that this has lost one of it's writers, because there is no real cohesive story between the episodes in the 3rd series, while the previous 2 seasons had a running story, with the characters actually following a "path", and the ending of this series leaves you "wanting more", where the previous series had a firm ending point.

The characters in this are fabulous, and the actors really know each other at this point, so the way they interact is fantastic, it's just a pity that the writing isn't as good as it was - the jokes are as good, and the delivery is still brilliant, but this feels like several unrelated episodes rather than a real story.

One great example of the "average" writing is that Lord Darkness needs to find a bride in one episode, approaches Penthiselea and is (obviously) turned away, but the following episode there is no mention of him needing a bride - clearly it was only setup for the jokes that could arise from the situation, with no thought of where it fits within the overall storyline... Anil Gupta is good at the jokes, but not so good at a story...

"Good, but getting a little thin now!"

This is the third outing for the Elvenquest squad and everything is very similar to the previous two series.

The cast, and the plot, remain largely the same but there are many fabulous moments that are worth purchasing this for.

Alistair McGowan's character has evolved so much that it is now virtually an impression of Rowan Atkinson from Blackadder 2.

As it's a BBC production, the audio quality is superb and the production is slick.

    Worth a listen.

"Can't wait for the next series"

First heard series one on the radio, and had to download other series ASAP. Now I and my kids are addicted to Elvenquest. My seven year old now listens over and over again to the 'pregnant' episode. It's much better having them all one after the other than waiting for a weekly update if you're the impatient type. These are funny, family friendly radio dramas - and long may they continue!
