Run by the forbidding divorcée Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (an unfortunate marriage, namewise, but in Carolyn's opinion, marginally better than Carolyn Shappey-Knapp), her two pilots are the smooth, experienced, and almost-certainly-fired-by-a-big-airline-for-all-around naughtiness Douglas, and struggling, almost competent Martin. All-round help is provided by Carolyn's near-idiot son, Arthur.

Cabin Pressure is the best new UK comedy series I've found on Audible. Stephanie Cole and Roger Allam are both fantastic, and the other players are fine as well. The writing is crisp and fun, as well as intelligent and largely free of coarseness. Any listener with a sense of humor will enjoy this download. Don't forget to get series 1 as well. You will be charmed, I promise you!
The second series is as strong as the first. I love the second episode and the revelation about Martin. He is portrayed so fantastically by Benedict Cumberbatch. He could easily be a ridiculous and unsympathetic laughingstock but as voiced by Cumberbatch, his yearnings and frustrations are as real as his shortcomings and I just want to give him a hug! The Johannesburg and Kuala Lumpur episodes are both classics as well.
This is one of the best radio plays I've ever listened to.
I only planned to listen to each individual episode at a time, but ended up listening to the entire series.
Oh, it's hard to pick just one thing - the clever, hysterically funny writing, the performances or the way it changes the way you look at everyday life?
There were many stories. And they were all funny and witty and clever. I love that!
Each narrator provided depth and nuances that broadened the characters and made them into people rather than just caricatures. The comic delivery had me staggering around the park laughing seemingly to myself on my daily walk as I listened.
"Arthur says 'it's brilliant'"
I am so jealous of the UK for getting new episodes first.
I already have! I have recommended this to a bunch of friends most of them love it, a few aren't crazy about it but still acknowledge it's funniness.
um Martin. His preeminence to failure despite his efforts creates great conflict.
Arthur- such a well done character
when it made me laugh....which was all the time
You Won't Regret Getting This!
This is among the funniest audiobooks I've ever listened to. I keep listening to the three Cabin Pressure series (& the Christmas Special) and they don't lose their appeal.
In this series, one of the most memorable moments was in the second play - the airdot is transporting a chamber orchestra to Gdansk, one of the passengers is convinced that everyone is trying to kill her. There's an interesting game going on between the pilots and Carolyn - trying to remember the names of all the seven dwarves and Arthur trying to help Martin win a bet against Douglas.
The performers; Stephanie Cole as Carolyn Knapp-Shappey, owner of MJN Air, Arthur Shappey, her son and steward, Roger Allam as Douglas Richardson, First Officer and Benedict Cumberbatch as Martin Crieff, the Captain, bring the characters to life in a way that reading the plays wouldn't.
Buy this audiobook. Buy it now. Buy it fast. You'll laugh until you're sore in the stomach listening to the adventures of MJN air, Britain's least competent but most endearing airline. This is British radio humour at its very best, and it has Benedict Cumberbatch in the cast (as Captain Martin Crieff)! The entire series is excellent - there's not a dud episode among them. I cannot wait for more episodes so come, and have listened to these ones many times and they just keep staying funny. This is a future classic, destined for the comedy hall of fame.
All of the performances and writing are top notch. I havent found a funnier or better written show yet.
This show reminds me alot of the Hicthhikers Guide to the Galaxy
It's not a book, it's a radio program with an audience. Funny dialogue.
The actors are wonderful
Like many others, I downloaded it because of Benedict Cumberbatch and it also stars Roger Allam that I just watched in the "Endeavor" TV series as a detective. Everyone's performances are very good and with endearing characters.
Yes ! Cleaning the house !
May not be for everyone. It's very silly British humor.
After enjoying the first series so much, I bought this one as well. I listen to it while knitting and I have a great time with it.
This shows that series 1 was not a fluke. This is even better. The games the crew play to stave off boredom during flights are truly inventive and are really funny signs of how tedious life can be. If you haven't heard this or series 1 yet what are you doing? Buy this now, download it immediately and listen to it over and over again to catch all the comedic nuances. Like I said of series 1, you will not be disappointed.
Cabin Pressure is fabulous. John Finnemore should be locked in a room and made to write Series 3, 4 and 5.
Deep Trouble is another one of his outstanding comedies.
They lighten my dark days.
"First Class Comedy"
Cabin Pressure is a real gem - very clever, beautifully written, wonderful characterizations, superbly voiced by a top class cast and most of all very, very funny. I have lost track of how many times I've listened to these two series, but it has never become jaded - love it every time.
Funny, genius, excellent.
I have all series of this, but I've only listened to series one and two so far. Both have been great.
No - comic, rather than moving.
Although I'd heard of this show through friends, I hadn't realised how funny it was. A long car journey led me to stick it on, and I was most pleasantly surprised. The characters are brilliantly written and very well-portrayed by the cast. I particularly enjoyed John Finnemore's character, Arthur, the pleasantly brain-dead cabin boy.
"Very good indeed"
Ruddy Good Fun
Extremely well performed, the principle being Roger Allam who gives a Black Adder goes forth worthy effort. His delivery and timing is nearing comedy perfection. The rest of the cast is top-notch as well. The stories are well structured and fun. This is the best thing on Radio 4.
"Listen again and again and laugh anew"
Beautifully written and brilliantly acted. I return to listening to this and it always makes me laugh again.
The interplay between the characters.
As good as all the other series.
Definitely value for money. I always try to buy an audiobook I will want to listen to many times and Cabin Pressure is no exception.
Definitely - it is a tight script, well acted, great timing and just very, very funny.
The actors, their timing - oh yes, and the stories.
their comic timing was spot on.
Laugh 'til I cried.
More series please!
"As Arthur would say 'Briiliant!!!!'"
This is one to listen to again and again. Brilliantly written and performed and fabulously funny.
"Marvellous....laugh out loud!!"
Douglas's second language is sarcasm...he is my hero...the cunning fox..! poor old Martin, dear sweet Arthur and slightly scary Caroline.... Four beautifully crafted characters..totally addictive, clever fun which you can listen to over and over again..
Bloody hilarious very well written and performed!
All of them. Just very funny!
Laugh a lot!
