I have subscribed to this program for several months now and wouldn't dream of missing it! The reporting and interviews are well-researched, entertaining and thought-provoking. Occasionally the subject of the show doesn't inetrest me, but I always learn something from it. As someone who works for a church, I find this very helpful -- a painless way to keep current.
Speaking of faith is interesting and thought-provoking. I would suggest this program to people who like learning about world religions and the issues surrounding religion.
As someone who has an interest in faith and religion in a general sense, but does not subscribe to a particular belief system, I find "Speaking of Faith" provides an excellent overview of a wide range of faith and religion topics. I particularly enjoy the way Krista Tipett facilitates discussion and provides a respectful (and often joyful) environment for guests to discuss their own views and opinions. I am also very grateful for the lack of bias in the programming. "Speaking of Faith" allows me the opportunity to listen to different sides of an issue and make up my own mind having done so.
A number of my friends find the programs well-balanced and insightful. Krista Tippett is a wonderful interviewer who seems to be in genuine conversation with her guests and comfortable with her topics. Having the programs in Audible format makes it possible to reflect on them.
This is a delightful and insightful series. I was so engrossed with "Religion and our World in Crisis" that when the highway signs finally registered in my consciousness, I realized I was not supposed to be 140 miles outside of Indy. I got where I was going, eventually. I highly recommend this series to anyone of any belief system.
Krista Tippett delivers an insightful and well-balanced look at a multitude of issues. Plus, her guests are outstanding.
Our NPR stations in Boston unfortunately don't carry this program, so it's quite handy to have a subscription.
Speaking of Faith is great. I have enjoyed it almost as much as This American Life. I find that the show is balanced in it's attempt to show all sides of a subject. I will likely subscribe again next month.
From the first time I heard it, I have been hooked on this show. It is well done and the moderator is sympathetic and easy to listen to. Very interesting show that I listen to regularly.
I must say, however, that in my mind it is wrongly titled. It should be titled Speaking of Religion. Faith in the sense of believing what God has said in the Bible is lacking from most of these shows. And this leads to the second point--I recommend all those who have a Bible based faith to listen to this show--you will quickly appreciate how valuable it is to have built your faith on the solid foundation of the Bible, and which allows you to escape much of the silliness that calls itself faith in the world today.
This show is well produced and there are things to be learned from it. It's like a comfortable conversation around the coffee table.
The guests are a mixed lot. Sometimes knowledgable, interesting and wise. Sometimes none of the above.
The show presents differing (sometimes opposite) views on matters of faith and religion. Thayt is good and well, but the show makes no attempt to find truth. The host is sweet and gracious which is also good, but she is too soft. Hardhitting questions that need to be asked are often not. A recent show concerning Islam was particularly shallow. Another show concerning gay marrigage had two strong guests with opposite positions. Both positions cannot be correct. Deeper and more challenging questions were needed.
A well produced show with occasionally good content. I like this show enough to keep listening to it and hoping to learn from it. However, given it's shortcomings I can only rate it at 3 stars.
