Publisher's summary

I lived in paradise, and I loved Spencer Pierce.

At 14, my life was perfect. The beach was my playground, and the boy who stole my heart lived just around the corner. But perfect never lasts. In one horrifying moment, I lost it all. My family was destroyed, and the boy I believed in turned his back on me. Paradise became a nightmare.

That was five years ago. Everything changed when we moved from our home by the sea. I've changed, and I don't like who I've become. I miss the smiling, carefree beach girl who disappeared that terrible night. I want to find her again. I want to face the people we ran from so long ago. Most of all, I have to face Spencer. So I can prove that when he broke my heart, he didn't break me.

But when I see him again, Spencer Pierce is no longer the boy from my memories. He's now a man who could devastate me if I let him. He watches me when he thinks I'm not looking. There's regret written on his face when he's near. Each time I see him, my heart aches for what might have been, and I think his does too. How can I convince myself I'm over him when I suspect he never got over me?

Good Romance Story.

Would you listen to Play of Light again? Why?

No. I feel I have the story down from the first listen. It is a good story and has good charactors. The author lets you know about each charactor a little at a time it keeps you reading.

What did you like best about this story?

I love that the book takes place on the ocean. It adds romance and love to the story. It is in a great setting.

Which scene was your favorite?

All the beach scenes are awsome. The sunrises and sunsets. How lovely.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Sarah goes with her Dad to help Spencer. What a great guy her Dad was.

Brilliant

Took me awhile to get through this one. The narration was confusing to me, not sure what the purpose of the accent was. That being said the narrator was genius! Performance was outstanding! She was spot on with emotions. This author was a first for me and I look forward to more!

A Coming Of Age With A Couple Of Sharp Turns

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Loved the ending!

What about Leanne Yau’s performance did you like?

Leanne did a great job but what threw me off with regards to this story was the English accent.

Could you see Play of Light being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I could see this as a Freeform channel movie

Sweet read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This is my first read by this author and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The author did a great job with the hard subjects that were brought up. Going into this I wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. If your looking for a book thats sweet, heart breaking and healing this is for you.

Wonderful story & narration

I was given a free copy to review at my request. I love to read & had never tried an audio book before.

This story drew me in from the beginning & I thoroughly enjoyed the narration to the story. She brought the story & characters to life - making you feel like you truly are a part of it.

Well written, well narrated, well done.

Good Contemporary Listen

Would you consider the audio edition of Play of Light to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version of Play of Light but the audio version was very well done. The narrator did a good job at showing emotion and expressing the fears, friendships, love and loss in the book. I would say the audio version was as good as the print version if not better.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the scene when Sarah and her dad went to help Spencer and the scene before that one. There is so much packed into those scenes and you can feel the love her dad has for Sarah and also that Sarah had for Spencer. You can also tell the type of person her dad is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It is a longer book so I don't think that it is one that I could listen to in one listen even if I wanted to. The first part of the book was a little slow for me and I found that part was a little easier to put down than the 2nd part of the book so no, I could have listened to it in multiple parts.

Odd US/Boston accent for sure.

Why oh why oh WHY would you use a British accent for American characters set in Boston??????
Also, don't understand what the title has to do with the story.
Anyway, sweet romance, but dealing with some heavy stressful issues.
Could have edited out most of female character's boyfriend/ex. Ending left romance completed, but a major issue in the couples life was on the way of trying to be resolved. Would have liked to hear how how that part ended. Kind of left me hanging.
After writing the review, I downgrade to 3 stars. (Originally Rounded up to 4 stars from an actual 3.5 rating.)

Great read

Any additional comments?

Play of Light by Debra Doxer was a good book. Sarah met Spencer and knew she would love him forever. Everything changed in an instant. Five years later and they meet again but maybe it is what both needed. I loved reading this book.
