Publisher's summary

Shannon Brycen believes she is the epitome of pitifully ugly. Kalen, Shannon's overly social sister, is determined to play matchmaker and find a special someone for her sister. After a disastrous date with one of Kalen's recent selections, Shannon decides to take her love life back into her own hands by joining the local lesbian cyber matchmaker.

Mid 30s, still single, housebroken but rabid. If you're looking for something different, then I'm your girl. Write me if you dare.... P. U. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to build her profile after consuming half a bottle of her favorite wine...or to use a picture of herself at the age of six - after she had cut her own hair - as her online profile photograph.

Hiding behind the online persona of Pitifully Ugly, Shannon finds the courage to meet new women and face the disaster called dating. As her charming personality surfaces, Shannon's search for the perfect match may be closer than she realizes.

PU

I love the title of the book. The storyline was very interesting. The one thing that I didn't like was, drug the storyline out too long. It took the characters too long to come to an understanding.

Sooooo good

I’d already decided that Lori Prince and Robin Alexander were a match made in heaven based on all the other Audiobooks Lori has narrated for Robin. But if I’d ever had any doubts at all, listening to this audiobook would have wiped them entirely off the planet. This is one of Robin’s books that I haven’t gotten around to reading in print, so listening to this AB was my first experience with it. Boy, am I glad I waited, because listening to Lori’s enactment of some of the funnier scenes nearly had me peeing my pants. All of Robin’s books are funny, but some scenes in this one ascend to a new level of hilarity. I also really liked the premise and the love story that uniquely unfolds in this book. If you’re looking for an audiobook that will have you wiping away tears of laughter while also offering you a love story that’s sweet but a little off the beaten path, this one will make you very, very happy.

Great.

I loved Pitifully Ugly. The title had put me off for a long time. I know I'm late to jump on the bandwagon. I loved it. Enjoyable. Romantic.

Such a sweet and funny story <3

Shannon is trying her hand at online dating, “Loyal, warm-hearted, and fun. Loves quiet evenings at home. Enjoys cooking when it’s for someone besides myself. My favorite kind of day is a rainy cold sunday when I’m curled up in bed with someone, watching movies and eating junk food— oh my god I’m a lap dog with culinary skills!” that’s as far as she’s gotten, so far not so great.

This book was written and set in 2010. So that’s where the characters are technology wise, mostly using email to communicate instead of a dating app like what’d be used now.

Short chapters, only three are 20+ minutes.

Shannon Brycen (37): Introverted, self-deprecating, and secretly funny. Ready for a change in herself and her love life. She handles the financial side of the 4 salons she co-owns with her polar opposite older sister, Kalen. With her history of a few back to back, unfulfilling, long term relationships and many unfortunate dates under her belt she takes to an online lesbian dating site, The Rainbow Room. After a bottle of wine she finally puts her profile together with a childhood photo (after she cut her own hair), a colorful description (seen in the summary), and the username Pitifully Ugly. Where she gets in contact with Newby, just moved to New Orleans from Atlanta for work and trying to make a new friend.

Hailey Morgan: Senior sales manager for a pharmaceutical company and Shannon’s new downstairs neighbor. Her wingwoman of a dog, Fuzzy, the main reason for the women continuously running into each other in the courtyard of their apartment building.

This was the 4th audiobook I ever listened to. I can safely say it helped get me into them. I love the main characters, especially their banter. Its always fun when you like them and want to shake them so they get it together. Many side characters in this as well, they were a funny addition to the story and a force to Shannon and Hailey’s relationship. In all it was so amazing to re-listen, going back to books/movies/shows allows you to pick up things you missed. I really like Lori Prince, especially how she voices Hailey in this.

A story that will have you laughing and swooning.

What fun dialogue. Shannon is a single woman looking for a good date and her experiences are just too funny. Kalen her sister is not a good matchmaker. Hailey moves in to her building but her past leaves her scared. Shannon and Hailey have such a spark. This incredible story is funny, powerful and so wonderfully loving. Lori Prince gives voice to some unique characters that make a journey of love. I loved this book, the characters had me laughing and I felt the joy finding someone you love deeply. A great listen with fun twists and heartfelt vulnerable hearts.

PU

This was a book that was very gently written, and very nice! It really encapsulated the struggle for those who are socially awkward at times.
