Publisher's summary

Period Power is a profound but practical blueprint for aligning daily life with the menstrual cycle, to give all menstruators a no-nonsense explanation of what the hell happens to us every month and how we can use each phase to its full advantage.

Ninety per cent of people who have periods experience symptoms of PMS, a syndrome which features a wide range of signs and symptoms, and yet there's an enduring lack of understanding about what it actually is and a disappointingly meagre range of treatment options.

So many of us have a Jekyll and Hyde experience of our lives; we feel on top of the world, capable, confident and sexy for part of each month, then find ourselves in a state of physical and emotional discomfort and fatigue, wanting nothing more than to collapse on the sofa in front of Netflix.

But what if instead of just trying to plan for our dark days, we were equipped with ways to improve them? What if our desire to improve ourselves could be combined with our need to know just what our womb and ovaries are getting up to every month?

Not to mention how to take advantage of the natural superpowers that sit in each phase of our cycle so that we can plan our month to perform at our best.

Maisie Hill is uniquely placed, as an acupuncturist, women's health practitioner and doula, to explain just how we can achieve this as well as focusing on particular milestones that require an altered approach, such as coming off hormonal birth control, infertility, pregnancy, motherhood and the perimenopausal years.

Using what Hill calls 'The Cycle Strategy' - a secret weapon when it comes to improving our relationships, career and health - Hill will give us all the information we need to make sense of our cycles as well as accessible and practical suggestions through which we can improve our physical symptoms and stop berating ourselves because of the way we evolve through each menstrual month.

This book is LIFE-CHANGING

Knowing EVERYTHING about your cycle is powerful. Tuning in to your daily, weekly and monthly cues frees you up to focus on the other parts of your life in a healthy, balanced way. Maisie Hill explains all you would ever want to know in an accessible and interesting manner. There are even dedicated chapters for your first period and menopause - which will be a tremendous help for my daughter, and for me later in life. I can’t imagine how puberty would have been different if I had this book. Now I have such a greater understanding of my body and feel in control. Read this book and harness the power of your cycle.
One last thing: I really valued how the author carefully chose her language/pronouns and acknowledged that not all menstruators are women and not all women menstruate. She also included a very powerful section on period poverty and ways to help while accounting for the bias her own privilege brings to the conversation. It was inspiring and a good example of how to go about affecting social justice.
And a last, last thing: I got the audio version too which Maisie Hill reads herself, and it is fantastic.

An eye opener!

Felt the need to keep notes in every single section! I’m a mother in my 40s and learned things I wish I knew earlier! Please read this if you respect your self!
The only recommendation I would like to make is for a better division of the chapters in audible, so to be able to go back to specific parts of the book at anytime.
Thank you Maisie for all the knowledge!

things I wish I knew

overall i loved the book and thought it was helpful. I do not agree with her stance on IF. there are just too many sources that support if in both women and aiding in becoming pregnant. However, it does not diminish the quality of other information available in this book.

Transformative information for anyone with a cycle

I found this piece incredibly informative and liberating. So much knowledge that is not talked about enough and that’s an understatement. Would recommend 10x over and wish there was a workbook of sort that went with the book for tracking cycles and other things.

Politics? No thank you.

The author is a typical angry feminist. I did not enjoy listening to this book and do not recommend it.

To politically biased

Lost credibility when she states that men can be a menstruating person. It was less anatomical and more opinionated than I expected.

Anti-Birth Control

The author had a poor experience on birth control so she goes on and on about why no one should take them.
