Publisher's summary

The last thing Ash expects when she lands in Clearwater, Florida, is to be stalked by a troubled teenager. If that's not bad enough, she is caught in a shooting spree next to the nearby elementary school. The cops think it’s an attempt at mass killing, but Ash wonders if the only victim was specifically targeted by the killer.

Will she manage to identify him and have him arrested before he comes after her?

A beautifully narrated thriller!

Overkill, by Uvi Poznansky, is the latest release from this USA Today Bestselling Author. I have long been a genuine fan of all her books, from the romantic stories to the biblical novels, and now to this delightful thriller! I read the first book in the series, Coma Confidential—a wonderful psychological thriller— and was thrilled when Overkill was released so that I could continue to follow young college student Ashley in her startling exploits.

Told from the point of view of Ash, formerly a comatose patient, Overkill is poetically written and finely executed, involving new storylines that could have been taken from contemporary headlines. I read the book and then listened to the audiobook, which brought each character and scene to life in a way that kept me addictively listening.

Narrator Heather Jane Hogan is an outstanding narrator, whose vocal range covers male to female, young to old, with an absolutely convincing performance. Her voice is lovely and easy to listen to, and she gives all the nuances of the enactment for which one could hope.

Ash flees her college life in California, leaving boyfriend Michael behind, hoping for a much needed respite after the events in Coma Confidential.

The little cottage she rents from an acquaintance of her father ends up not being as idyllic as expected, when she walks in the door and there’s a horrific odor and stains beneath the rugs. Who died here? And why is everyone so closed mouth about the history of the cottage?

The story heats up when Ash is caught in a school shooting. The child she protects is a young neighbor boy, whose estranged father is killed in the rampage. Ash becomes involved in the investigation and becomes close to the mother and boy, helping the family wherever she can.

Overkill is a fast-paced, suspenseful and beautifully written and narrated tale that you must enjoy for yourself!

- Highly recommended by Aaron Lazar, USA Today Bestselling Author.

Good suspense

Note: Even though this is book 2 in the series, it worked just fine as a stand alone novel.

Ash, who is in her early 20s, has moved to Clearwater, FL. She’s still dealing with trauma from Book 1 but as someone new to the series, enough of Ash’s history was folded in for me to easily pick up on her story. Her dad lives just a few blocks away, with his new wife Heather. Meanwhile, her cranky mother has come along to help her move in. Ash’s new place is kind f a dump. It’s not clean and Mrs. Gore, the landlady, isn’t interested in cleaning it up.

As Ash starts to explore her new town, she picks up a stalker. Paul is 17 and at first I thought perhaps he was just socially awkward. In fact, his instant stalker status for the story was pretty abrupt, even as it allowed the plot to get a jump start. Later in the story, Ash gets a part time job helping keep an eye on young Timmy. Tracy’s older son (Ryan or Bryan) has gone missing and so she wants Timmy to have a little extra monitoring, like walking him to and from school.

Right away, its apparent that the house Ash is renting is key to the mystery, though exactly what the mystery is takes some time to make it’s reveal. There’s lots of action to go with the mystery and Ash is just along for the ride. She doesn’t make many choices that affect the plot and she waits way too long to call in someone else for help. Over all, I liked the action and the mystery was OK. The characters don’t have a lot of depth but there’s enough depth for Ash that I liked her.

The book info advertises this story as a suspense thriller with a dash of romance. There’s no romance in this book except for a teeny tiny smidge when Ash’s boyfriend (Michael) shows up at the end of the book. I’m not big on romance in general, so that worked just fine for me. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Heather Jane Hogan was a great choice for Ash. She sounds like a young lady who is picking up her life and getting things back together. Her kid voices were good too. Timmy’s voice was perfect. Her teen and adult male voices could use a touch more masculinity. I was also confused on one name – is it Brian or Ryan? I think Hogan kept switching back and forth. All characters had unique voices. The pacing was good. There were no tech issues with the recording. 4/5 stars.

Overkill

Ash’s getaway to Florida to heal and recover was anything but relaxing. Being the target of a stalker is bad enough, but finding herself caught up in a bigger situation just might be more than she can handle.

Uvi Poznansky takes us on another thrilling journey. I was definitely on the edge of my seat throughout this story.

I thought Heather Jane Hogan’s narration was very well done. I felt for the characters as they went through a full range of emotions.

A Florida Get Away Goes Wrong

Needing to heal from the trauma of her rape and coma, Ash heads to Florida alone but her stay is anything but the peaceful escape she was hoping for in this second novel in the series.
A secret room, a stalker, a missing boy and a schoolyard shooting lead to a nail-biter of a conclusion that will leave you gasping for breath as Poznansky spins a tale of intrigue, tragedy and pure evil that might cause you to reconsider turning the lights out at night.
A must for thriller fans.

Ash is in the wrong place again

I haven't listened to an audio book in quite awhile. Heather did a great job and really made the characters come alive. Uvi has written another story that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I hope there is another book after this one.

A terrifying story

Poor Ash having all her own grief & then a stalker to boot. Finding the room in her house was very creepy. A story full of suspense, evil, courage and betrayel.

Kept my attention!

I could not put this book down! I loved the plot development and action sequences in the book. Overkill kept my attention from the very start.

Ash impulsively relocates to sunny Florida hoping to escape the dark memories that haunt her back home. As she struggles to unpack and settle in, she begins uncovering secrets that just won't stay hidden.

The narrator did a marvelous job! Her interpretation of Timmy is amazing. He is a little boy who gets thrown into a situation much bigger than any child should have to experience. I could see his face with his little mind working in overdrive. I felt his hug when he snuggled his mother. She brought this pivotal character to life in a spectacular way.

School shooting or overkill?

This second book in the Ash Suspense Thrillers is again very descriptive, exciting and well written. I listened to Audible version and felt the narrator took some of the tense, suspenseful moments away. The words were putting me on edge, but her tone was not. But I found this book to be very entertaining.
