Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Catherine Anderson takes listeners to a quaint wilderness town, where a man and a woman find a second chance at life - and love...

Determined to give her son Jeremy the childhood he deserves, Chloe Evans has left a tough past behind and is starting fresh in the charming resort town of Jack Pine, Oregon. But protecting Jeremy becomes a dicey proposition when he seeks out the most dangerous man in town to heal his sick puppy.

Chloe has been warned to stay away from Ben Longtree. But there's something about the gentle, untamed loner that intrigues her....

Long ago, Ben accepted his role as town outcast. Rumored to have once killed a man, he lives in splendid isolation with his forgetful mother, secretly employing his skills as a veterinarian to heal the wounded animals that mysteriously come to him. Now, Chloe's sunny warmth and brave tenacity arouse desires he has long denied. And although Ben is notorious for his healing touch, it is Chloe's hands - and heart - that have the power to save his battered soul.

ALMOST VERY GOOD

The story was to my liking. However, for me, there was to much waffling on the emotions and some thing were drawn out a bit far for me. Other than that, it kept my attention and I enjoyed it.

Great story!

I have always loved this book. It's a beautiful story. However, the narration could've been so much better. The narrator definitely ruined it for me and made it difficult to enjoy.

She does it again

Another great Catherine Anderson story. She never fails. Unusual plot this time, but good. I recommend it.

really amazing story

I really enjoyed this story and was so glad the reviews didn’t keep me from it. the narrator isn’t my favorite but she’s not as horrible as some of these reviews make her out to be. I loved the stories of wildlife in this audio book and it had a great story line and beautiful romance.

Favorite author

I’ve never disliked a Catherine Anderson book. This narrator does a great job with all the different characters voices. I just couldn’t get past the fact that her main voice sounded like Eliza Jane Wilder on Little House on the Prairie.

Chloe Evans (30) has curly auburn hair, a son named Jeremy (6; asmatic condition brought on by emotional distress), just got a golden retriever puppy from a rescue they named Rowdy, and is the new dispatcher at the sheriff's office. Chloe is recently divorced. Roger, her ex-husband, became abusive after suffering a head injury from a boating accident. Benjamin Isaiah Longtree (37; aka Ben; pen name Brett Caldwell) is a 6'5", blue-eyed, veterinarian, Shoshone Indian healer, and children's book author who lives with his ill mother on Cinnamon Ridge, their 160-acre property. Hap, Ben's father, was a violent, cheating, abusive drunk before he died in a drunk driving accident. Hap was deeply scarred after using his gift to heal his mom when she was beyond saving. Ben and Chloe meet the day Chloe and Jeremy shop for items for Rowdy. There is an instant spark between the two. Several people try to warn Chloe away from Ben because of his past. Jeremy takes Rowdy to Ben because the vet in town is too expensive and Jeremy is desperate to save Rowdy.
