Publisher's summary

At nineteen years old, Nicole C. Kear's biggest concern is choosing a major - until she walks into a doctor's office in midtown Manhattan and gets a life-changing diagnosis. She is going blind, courtesy of an eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa, and has only a decade or so before lights-out.

Instead of making preparations as the doctor suggests, Kear decides to carpe diem and make the most of the vision she has left. She joins a circus school, tears through boyfriends, travels the world, and through all these high jinks, she keeps her vision loss a secret.

When Kear becomes a mother, just a few years shy of her vision's expiration date, she amends her carpe diem strategy, giving up recklessness in order to relish every moment with her kids. Her secret, though, is harder to surrender - and as her vision deteriorates, harder to keep hidden. As her world grows blurred, one thing becomes clear: No matter how hard she fights, she won't win the battle against blindness. But if she comes clean with her secret, and comes to terms with the loss, she can still win her happy ending.

Told with humor and irreverence, Now I See You is an uplifting story about refusing to cower at life's curveballs, about the power of love to triumph over fear. But at its core, it's a story about acceptance: Facing the truths that just won't go away and facing yourself, broken parts and all.

Now I see you

This was an excellent book. I enjoyed it. Mrs Kear has a wonderful sense of humor and this memoir of how she dealt with her diagnosis and the aftermath was enlightening. She was a lso a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Unexpectedly Entertaining & Enlightening

This topic (going blind) is not one I’ve ever had to fully consider (thankfully). This book made me aware of many issues that someone would struggle with in such a real and relatable way. The humor is refreshing and relieving while dealing with such a heavy topic. Finally, the narrator was excellent. She nailed the accents and even voiced the other characters almost flawlessly. I wasn’t expecting to get so much out of this book. Glad I took the chance!

Hilariously relatable - thank you!

Really nice to have someone put into words the challenges I have and currently experience as a woman and mother who is visually impaired. Extremely funny and a raw honest account of fears and everyday joys. And yes, often the only appropriate word to describe the intense feeling is a curse word. Would love to go out for coffee with Nicole.

Not bad

What did you like best about Now I See You? What did you like least?

I appreciated how open and honest the author was about her life; however, I didn't like all the swearing because it seemed unnecessary.

What did you like best about this story?

It was an interesting memoir.

What does Nicole C. Kear bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think people can understand the author better when they narrate their own work.

Incredible, one of the best audio books I’ve listened to !

Nicole’s story about going blind from the time she is 19 is just incredible. Not a melodramatic story, on the contrary: she is stubborn, adopts risky behaviours, takes risks, and lies through the deterioration of her eyesight. This made her not very likeable at times (sorry Nicole) but funny and relatable. It’s a story like no other I’ve heard and I was riveted !

Great writing!

Nicole C Kear has written a memoir of depth and poignancy combined with humor. I’ve listened to it several times. Her narration includes remarkable variation of voices all delightful to listen to. I wish there were more to read from her.

Such a relatable story

I was recommended this book because I suffer from many many of the same things as Nicole.

I loved her stories and how I was able to relate to them in my own way. She made me laugh, she drew me in.
