Publisher's summary

When homicide detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth are called to a crime scene in a heavily-wooded city park, the setting is all too familiar. And when they discover a playing card on the victim's body, their worst fears are confirmed: There's a serial killer operating in the city for the first time in years.

As the violence accelerates in Minneapolis, Magozzi and Rolseth soon realize their killer is planning to complete the deck, and they enlist Grace MacBride and her unconventional partners at Monkeewrench Software to help stop the rampage.

As a baffling tangle of evidence accumulates, the cops and Monkeewrench make unlikely connections between a farmer's missing daughter, a serial killer, and a decades-old stabbing that bring them face-to-face with pure evil.

Suspense and Personal Warmth

Women are being killed in Minneapolis parks and Magozzi and Rollseth are on the case. Monkeewrench people are working a cold case. This book had the trademark twists and more twists PJ Tracy always delivers. I didn’t care for the narrator, but I loved the story.

I would prefer another narrator

I usually enjoy this narrator, but this time his voice acting was subpar, especially with the female characters. He speaks slower than I prefer, even during action scenes, so I made it through this audiobook by increasing the speed to 1.5 to 2.0. The storylines were very good, so my rating went from 3.5 to 4 stars for the story and the writing.

Political slant

I love PJ Tracy, but this time I did not enjoy the book as much. So much of the content reflects Fox News view of immigrants and media that it made me cringe. I'm an immigration attorney. So every inaccuracy stung sharply. Some of the verbage and characterizations of immigrants and reporters were lifted, word for word, from right wing propaganda- and a lot of it false. I didn't enjoy it.
