Publisher's summary

Bill O'Reilly is mad as hell - and he's not going to let you take it anymore. In his most powerful and personal book yet, this media powerhouse and unstoppable truth-teller takes on those individuals and institutions in American life who are failing in their duties - big-time. In his inimitable style, mixing wit, pugnacity, and plain common sense, O'Reilly kicks butt and takes (and also names) names, from crooked corporate weasels to venal politicians to lazy and/or politically correct bureaucrats to sexually predatory priests and the Church hierarchy that protects them to a media establishment rife with political bias and economically hooked on violence and smut. At the same time that he calls the famous and powerful to account, he dares to get personal, questioning just how much our closest friends, families, and lovers do look out for us, and delivering a powerful message about personal responsibility and self-reliance in an uncertain world. He forces us to ask just how much genuine altruism is left in a society that thrives on self-indulgence and ruthless competition.

Who's Looking Out for You? is a book that boldly confronts our worst fears and biggest problems in a post-9/11, post-corporate-meltdown world. Its sage, candid advice on regaining control and trust in these troubled times will resonate with the millions of readers and viewers who have come to believe in Bill O'Reilly as the man who speaks for them.

Good book.

I am not sure how this book has so many good ratings and yet has such a low rating. It is a very enjoyable book and makes you think.

Given the current situation in which all the politicians and celebs in this country are liars, this great book will help you to understand what's going on here and find who is really looking out for you.

Like this guy's spunk

I think that Bill O'Reilly is a refreshing voice in the media. Sometimes conservative, a little liberal occasionally. The spin usually stops here.

Don't let them fool you!

Ok. I don't understand how the others got "a pack of lies" and other overly political meanings from this book. O'Reilly makes some very obvious and well documented observations in this book. At first, I was expecting a book that was highly controversial and full of his own ideologies, but I discovered while reading it that I was the one with ideologies that needed to be checked. I hate to admit it, but O'Reilly calls out a few of the conservative leaders who I've really respected for ideological reasons and, in the process, caused me to question many of the stances that I thought I held. In the past, I've kind-of snickered when I've heard O'Reilly talk about "fair and balanced" news, because I felt that the O'Reilly Factor (on TV) was very much leaning toward the right.. Now that I've read this book and have since been paying very close attention to what's going on as each edition of the O'Reilly Factor unfolds, I am finding out that it IS fair and balanced.. that he's holding everyone to the same set of standards and he's not favoring a certain party or ideology just for the sake of the particular party or ideology.

Bottom line: The people who have rated this book negatively fall into one of two categories.. One, they didn't read it and thought they'd make a political statement by posting a negative review (and thus exposing their ignorance) or Two, they read it and really didn't pay attention because their worlds would fall to pieces if they had to question their ideologies and belief structure (which, by the way, is a rickety construction of odds-and-ends that CANNOT support a society in any way, shape, or form, or in any alternate reality) and so they decided to mislabel this masterpiece of truth as a "pack of lies," etc.

Regardless, this is a free country and they are entitled to their opinions (which O'Reilly clearly states more than once in this book).. I just find it very ironic that the people who claim to be so open-minded are just the opposite.

My First Impression

Having watched Bill O'reilly for a few years now I was familar with his thoughts on many of the topics he speaks of in his book. I did enjoy the small insight he gives us into his personel life. He also answered the question in the title and the answer was a little unexpected. It did make me think about myself and what I should expect from this world we live in. I see a few reviews who want to call it right wing trash although his themes are conservative I didn't think he was wrong in what he was saying on the subjects he covered.

great book

Once again, the time flew by while listening to this book as it did for me with Culture Warrior. I especially enjoyed the insights into Bill O's past and the honesty as Bill spoke about his own mistakes. There are lessons to be learned from these words.

Did they read the book

I read the book and thought it was great. It's so obvious that those that rated the book poorly did not read it. At least have the integrity to read the book before you slam it.

Looking Out for Us

Bill O'Reilly's Looking Out for You is excellent..I give it 5 Stars, but I like him from both his TV and Radio Shows so his points of view are not new to me..but he covers everything from todays child rearing to his personal beliefs, immigration and you name it..read it for a break in your reading stride..
