Publisher's summary

The inspiration for the hit television series Medium, Allison DuBois now brings listeners into her psychic experiences in We Are Their Heaven. Recalling her communication with spirits who have touched her over the years, she reveals that the dead are trying to reach their loved ones all the time, not because they're bound to us, but because we are their happiness, we are their heaven.

In moving stories of loss and connection, Allison presents the riveting details of some of her most memorable readings, and her clients share the significance and impact of their experiences making contact with long-lost loved ones. Drawing on her years as a medium, she discusses the essential elements of communicating with the deceased, explaining the need to read both their signs (the message) and their signature (the unique information). She also explores some of the methods used by the dead to contact us, including timing, coincidence, auditory and sensory communications, incident manipulation, dreams, and visions.

Guided by her strong desire to help these two worlds connect, Allison offers a message of comfort for anyone missing a loved one: through the thousands of readings that she has done, no one has come through to say "good-bye", but rather to say "hello again".

The real thing

The experience of hearing Allison DuBois, the psychic vs the author, is defintely a push-pull experience, as this audiobook serves well to demonstrate. While (judging from this audiobook) I cannot describe DuBois as articulately gifted (as a writer OR speaker) her more exalted gifts come across loud and clear: she appears a sincere and sensitive human window to the "other world". I enjoyed listening to her case studies and views of spirituality (and spiritualism)and also came to appreciate a certain lack of pretension in her personal style that many other mainstream psychics (such as Sylvia Brown) have long since either lost or never had in the first place. Imperfect, but also inspiring and occasionally even a goose-bumper, I enjoyed this audio book -- and I'll look forward to her next.

Sometimes self proving, often sweet

I have to say that I was expecting something different from this book. I don't read or listen to many titles of this genre but of course, being a fan of the TV show Medium, I was curious. When I couple that with my recent loss of a parent, I felt very happy in purchasing this audio book. There are many stories of readings in this book categorized quite well - death of a child, Medium episode truths and fictions, loss of a parent etc. Along the way Allison does spend time proving that she is a bonefide medium able to speak with the dead yet notes her frustration when she discovers her inability to readily to contact her own loved one who had passed.

I think that Allison's charm stands out in her ability to empathize with so many people in so many grief situations. Her readings are explained usually by the subject first and then by Allison herself. I found this format to be something other than what I expected still quite interesting and emotional.

I agree with the previous reviewer in that she lacks the "been there done that/seen it all" or "know it all" tone of other people who profess to speak with the deceased (Sylvia Browne - perfect example, I'd throw John Edward into that). I am skeptical about most "mediums" who make a profit from their "gift". That being said, there is something so genuine and warm about Allison I cannot help but feel she is the real thing.

Again, she does spend alot of time validating that she really IS a valid medium that can contact the deceased and actually "bring them through". Other than this, I think the book is charming, enlightening and can say it had a strong emotional resonance with me throughout my listen.

This was a few hours and a few dollars quite well spent.

Believed in Allison until her awful tv appearance

The book was very good, and I really like Allison's voice. That is why I gave it 4 stars. She seemed so genuine, more than a professional reader ever could, and I wanted to learn all about her and the books she has written - UNTIL - I saw her on the Dec. 2010 episode of Real Housewives on which she was a guest. She was drinking Vodka, smoking, and cursing (vulger words that had to be bleeped). My heart sank, and I was devastated. She showed a lot of arrogance regarding her psychic abilities. Why would she do these things when she knew it was being filmed? Was it the Vodka? I think the people mentioned in her book are real, and that she has a gift, but I no longer wish to know more about her.

Fantastic

I absolutely loved this book. It has variety in the actual narration, provides varied perspectives on the events and I believe a positive spin to the immense loss that we as survivors feels when someone we love passes.
This may sound odd ...but the section on suicide completely made me rethink me opinions on it. Having lost a friend this way i think you are always plagued by the "what-ifs". I guess in some way i managed to find some peace for myself in the text.
I was riveted to this audio. I drive a lot with work and could not wait to get back into my car to listen ... i think i booked more out of town work just so that i could listen to it!
It was an emotional experience listening to this and i have recommended it to several friends.
You have got to listen to it....

A long self-serving auditory commerical

What did you like best about We Are Their Heaven? What did you like least?

This book was less about the education of the reader on the Afterlife and more like a very long auditory Infomercial for the psychic talents of Ms. DuBois. I don't doubt that Ms. DuBois is a very talented Medium, but I need a little more substance in a book than what this has to offer. It doesn't really educate the reader on anything or really even answer the question "Why the dead Never Leave Us" other than that they love us and want to see us happy.

The book goes like this: Story after story is narrated by another voice actor about a horrible tragedy that befell them. They then talk about how amazing Allison is and how their lives are better for meeting her. Then Allison narrates and recounts her meeting and side of that particular story with this person and their reading. Do that for several hours and you have this book.

If you plan to learn anything and/ or already believe in that afterlife and the talent of mediums, steer clear of this book. If you want to hear about multiple tragedies and how accurate Ms. DuBois was/ is in deciphering them, then buy this book.

What aspect of Allison DuBois’s performance would you have changed?

Ms. Dubois reads this book in the most monotone voice possible. The other voice actors did a great job.

Was We Are Their Heaven worth the listening time?

No.

disappointing

I really enjoy the television show "Medium" which is based on experiences by this author. I made several attempts with this book and found it very difficult to maintain my attention. Reminded me of astrology readings and I am sadly dissappointed.

Very good book

This was a very comforting book for those of us who have lost someone close. My only complaint is the author narrates very slowly and without much expression in her voice. Otherwise, I fully recommened this book.

Wonderful!

We loved this audio book! It is narrated by Allision Dubois herself, with and intro by her husband, Joe, and you can hear so much more through their own voices telling the story. Allison takes care to convey her message clearly and with heart, that the ones we love never leave us, that they are interested in our lives and want to help. She helps us understand how they communicate with us and how we can communicate with them as well. I just lost my Grandmother recently, and with the help of this book, I feel her close to me now and feel we are continuing our relationship and friendship on an even better footing than before. This book is invaluable to those of us who have loved ones we never want to lose!

Wonderful!!!

This is such a wonderful book to read after you have lost a loved one. It made me realize that there are things we can watch for and ways we can communicate with those that have passed. I thought I was just imagining some of the things that were happening since my grandmother passed, but now I see that she can send me signs to let me know she is there for me when I need her. I was so close to her when I was growing up and now I realize she is still there to guide me if I just ask. Thank you Allison Dubois
