Publisher's summary

From America’s preeminent columnist, named by the Financial Times the most influential commentator in the nation, a must-have collection of Charles Krauthammer’s essential, timeless writings.

A brilliant stylist known for an uncompromising honesty that challenged conventional wisdom at every turn, Krauthammer dazzled readers for decades with his keen insight into politics and government. His weekly column was a must-read in Washington and across the country. Don’t miss the best of Krauthammer’s intelligence, erudition, and wit collected in one volume.

Listeners will find here not only the country’s leading conservative thinker offering a passionate defense of limited government, but also a highly independent mind whose views - on feminism, evolution and the death penalty, for example - defy ideological convention.

Things That Matter also features several of Krauthammer’s major path-breaking essays - on bioethics, on Jewish destiny and on America’s role as the world’s superpower - that have profoundly influenced the nation’s thoughts and policies. And finally, the collection presents a trove of always penetrating, often bemused reflections on everything from border collies to Halley’s Comet, from Woody Allen to Winston Churchill, from the punishing pleasures of speed chess to the elegance of the perfectly thrown outfield assist.

With a special, highly autobiographical introduction, in which Krauthammer reflects on the events that shaped his career and political philosophy, this indispensable chronicle takes the listener on a fascinating journey through the fashions and follies, the tragedies and triumphs, of the last three decades of American life.

EXCELLENT BOOK!!!!

The only thing I disliked was that Charles only narrated the first part. The other narrator was fine, but I find Charles’ voice soothing.

Great AudioBook

What made the experience of listening to Things That Matter the most enjoyable?

THe key was the historical material along with Charles's naration. It just was not the same feel when the other narrator took over.

Other than that a must read

So sorry he will never write again

I'm sorry that I never had the opportunity to meet the author. I miss his thought provoking columns, but this book has some of his favorites. Listen to it, you won't be sorry.

Thank you for your contributions!

I was not able to finish this book unfortunately until after the passing of Charles, which made it’s content even more significant to me knowing this was the last of his great oratory skills and observations of our current political landscape. I look forward to reading the book that his son helped to finish that he had started

More USA Leaders Should Read this, Regardless of Party

This is a personally selected collection of Charles Krauthammer’s OP-EDs, speeches and articles over the last 25 years or so, by the renowned Pulitzer Prize winning syndicated columnist, many of them read by himself in his one-of-a-kind style. Regardless of your politics, it is hard to deny his foresight, common sense and well reasoned philosophy and criticism of America’s political leadership over the past three decades and more. It proves once again that we don’t pay particular attention to the lessons of history on either side of the political fence.

Thoroughly enjoyable

The only critique I have is I wish the narrator would preface the date of each article so that the Listener has a better perspective. Otherwise fantastic read from one of the most influential conservative thinkers of out times.

An insightful journey with the author.

This was both an interesting journey through recent history and an insight into the author.
