Not what was expected, but suprisingly better!!

As has been stated, this book has little in common with the movie, and though I loved the movie and would have liked a more focused examination of it, this book turned out ot be infinitely more riveting. This is no novel, it is a collection of observations expressed by a journalist with a literary style that is absolutely captivating, amusing, and simultaneously disturbing. Instead of shocking us with outrageous and overly colorful depictions of events, John Keel has an amazing ability to evoke the inherent eeriness in what might seem the most mundane interactions, which when carefully analyzed, provide profoundly unsettling conclusions. He does not force his interpretation of these events, but leaves the reader to make up his or her mind. If you want a book to capture your imagination for hour upon hour on end by a talented author with a wry wit and healthy amounts of both marvel and cynicism, you will listen to this book several times without any loss of interest.

A good pick up.

I chose this title based on the reviews slagging it for not being based on the movie. This is pretty much in documentary form, which I find more interesting than the movie, and doesn't include the Hollywood embellishments. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this story is the linking of several phenomena. From mothman to UFO's to poltergiests and the infamous MIB, Keal links them all together. Definitely for the conpiracy theorist.
I was a bit disappointed with the second half of the book though. At points it was more far-fetched than I was willing to go, which almost threw the entire story out for me. Still, the first half was excellent and aside from the problems with the second half was still a very enjoyable listen.

The movie was good, the book was even better!

There is no way I am going to pass this book up! I have been a huge fan of stories such as this and either if it's real or not, everyone should have an open mind about this very subject! Fantastic!

I have always been interested in this story. The eyewitness and the stories they tell are very credible. This is great account of what happened in point pleasant.

just do the movie

felt like it could be 2-3 hrs without losing anything. relatively interesting but so repetitive and meandering it really dragged on

Shocked at how much I enjoyed this

This is a crazy story that I just couldn't stop listening too. Yes, it's old and it is written in a style that is not at all PC. But the story being told is bizarre, whether or not you find it believable. Mothman, UFOs, Men in Black, potentially demonic activity, and government intrusions. Absolutely wild. The narrator does an excellent job with what could be a story that can get a bit dry at times.

i love john keel, he is truly one of the greatest ufologists we've seen and his theories and accounts are absolutely ground breaking. his work is accessible and very informative, id suggest this book and the eighth tower to any intermediate ufologist for sure. however, john keel does use rather outdated terms for native people and asian people, and he has a strange habit of describing female witnesses by their looks, he specifically refers to one as "shapely". i get it, we ufologists are looked at as nerds, i understand you wanna prove hot women love aliens, but im here for theory not sex appeal. still, 10/10 read, please read the follow up to this book "the eighth tower."

Scary

Love the stories and the investigation.
The people truly saw things that were too scary to understand. The book was written in away you too could feel how frightening it would be to see Mothman or even the men in black.
Loved it.

Before Skinwalker Ranch there was Mothman

I’ve wanted to read this for years and finally conceded to listen on audible. I am not sorry.

Narration is excellent.

Content is so thick! Covers much more than just the creature known as “mothman.”

I did not realize the depth of phenomenon that Keel would cover. Long, before we knew of Skinwalker Ranch - the stories in this book are eerily familiar.

Keel was fascinating and I wish he were still around for a lecture circuit.

I’m going to listen to this book again, starting today.

If you are a lover of the paranormal, this recording will not disappoint.

Incredible audiobook

Any paranormal fan or researcher worth their weight in Au. will want to study this book for its connections to other classic fortean events throughout history.
