Editorial reviews

Why You Should Download This Audiobook: Richard Dawkins invites you to imagine a world where New York's Twin Towers still stand, where Arabs and Israelis live in peace, where the Crusades—events directly responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.2 million persons—never happened. In short, he invites you to imagine a world that would have been, and could be, without religion. That is not to say that he wishes to discard religion only because of its historical relationship to violence. This extensive, powerfully argued examination of why we believe, and the imperative of turning from Faith to Reason, has become an international best seller. It could change your life.

Publisher's summary

Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

He critiques God in all his forms, from the sex-obsessed tyrant of the Old Testament to the more benign (but still illogical) Celestial Watchmaker favored by some Enlightenment thinkers. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. In so doing, he makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just irrational, but potentially deadly.

Dawkins has fashioned an impassioned, rigorous rebuttal to religion, to be embraced by anyone who sputters at the inconsistencies and cruelties that riddle the Bible, bristles at the inanity of "intelligent design", or agonizes over fundamentalism in the Middle East or Middle America.

Can’t wait to read it again

I started this book as an atheist and I didn’t approach it for any extra convincing. I just KNEW that Dawkins would raise my consciousness in the elegant and thorough fashion he always does. I was not disappointed. The topics discussed are fascinating as are the various and numerous historical examples Dawkins dives into throughout the book.

I wish this was required reading for school teachers and politicians before they were allowed to educate our young or lead our countries. Not to dissuade them from their personal faiths or beliefs, but to enlighten our leaders (both in education and politics) of the dangers and damages that spur from religion in the public-sphere as well as the indoctrination of our youth.

I don’t believe science is the one true way of perceiving the world, but it surely provides the best means to freely decide for one’s self how you Wish to perceive the world. At the least, understand and teach the critical thinking procedure, then decide for YOURSELF (not anyone else) how you wish to live, what you wish to cherish, and what you believe.

Excellent except for all the feminism references.

Enlightening book and the performance was superb. The only fault with this book are the cringy glowing references to vile feminist ideology. Well worth listening to despite the aforementioned.

Superb Writing, Narration needs work

The author methodically debunks one by one, all reasons to believe in God. His explains in clear language that is easy for any adult to understand.
The narration bothered me. the frequent switching between Dawkins and Ward made it difficult for me because Ward’s voice is much softer than Dawkins. I found that I had to constantly change the volume up to hear Ward and then back down when Dawkins spoke, especially when listening in the car with road noise.

An amazing book by a very learned man

The god delusion is easy to read. It explain itself along the way and in some places it is very amusing though Richard Dawkins never lets go of the very important pointe - think for your sekf! Do not let anybody tell you how things are - discover the world and the truth for your self. A very important message in this world!

Amazingly Accurate

Anyone with a brain, needs to read this (Dawkins). His reasoning is simplistic enough for a child to understand.
