Editorial reviews

Why You Should Download This Audiobook: Richard Dawkins invites you to imagine a world where New York's Twin Towers still stand, where Arabs and Israelis live in peace, where the Crusades—events directly responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.2 million persons—never happened. In short, he invites you to imagine a world that would have been, and could be, without religion. That is not to say that he wishes to discard religion only because of its historical relationship to violence. This extensive, powerfully argued examination of why we believe, and the imperative of turning from Faith to Reason, has become an international best seller. It could change your life.

Publisher's summary

Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

He critiques God in all his forms, from the sex-obsessed tyrant of the Old Testament to the more benign (but still illogical) Celestial Watchmaker favored by some Enlightenment thinkers. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. In so doing, he makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just irrational, but potentially deadly.

Dawkins has fashioned an impassioned, rigorous rebuttal to religion, to be embraced by anyone who sputters at the inconsistencies and cruelties that riddle the Bible, bristles at the inanity of "intelligent design", or agonizes over fundamentalism in the Middle East or Middle America.

Thought provoking - logical and often funny

Love the dry British humour. Drawkin presents a comprehensive layout of the whole basis of "faith" and how this term has been control people through the ages.

Excellent

This is an excellent book to really delve into religion as a negative concept. It covered a broad range of topics and was very thorough. I feel much better informed after having read this book.

Fabulous.

Turns childhood belief on its head. What is knowledge and inquiry if not for this.

A good read for believers and non-believers alike

Would you listen to The God Delusion again? Why?

You don't have to be an atheist to enjoy this book, but if you're extremely religious and don't keep an open mind to other possibilities this book might offend you. This book tries to convey different reasons why religion could be a bad thing. argues the non-existence of god and tackles the misconception that morals are derived only from religion. I have listened to a couple of audio books read by Richard Dawkins and Lala Ward and never liked there style of presentation, but the content of the book is worth it.

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly amazed!

Very informative. It was great to listen to and I really enjoyed dual authors and how they traded off.

Beautifully excellent

Thank you so very much, Mr. Dawkins. All of your work is outstanding, but this particular effort is so important in our disturbing world of faith, unreason, and willful ignorance. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've read the book once and have just completed my third time listening. This is a favourite I will continue to revisit.

Extremely well organized and concise

I really enjoyed this book, and gave me a new perspective and appreciation of how biology more than anything has shaped the world around us over billions of years to what we take for granted today
