Publisher's Summary

What happens to us when we die? Where do people go? What do they see? What messages do they receive? Why are they allowed to come back?

The Day I Died brings together ten profoundly moving testimonies from people who have passed through the limits of human endurance and beyond. Around the world, ordinary people go about their daily lives convinced they've had a glimpse into the afterlife. Their eyewitness accounts often share uncanny similarities, and this book does justice to this beguiling subject by analysing dramatic narratives and shedding light on a phenomenon at the crossroads of the medical and the mystical.

Tammy Cohen presents ten intriguing reallife accounts, including a man who 'died' on the operating table and awoke with increased psychic abilities, a victim of domestic abuse who had a lifechanging unusual outofbody experience, plus stories from people who had 'drowned' and 'died' of heart attacks. Powerful, challenging and endlessly fascinating, The Day I Died celebrates both pleasurable and distressing neardeath experiences when death came calling, but left emptyhanded.

    "The best NDE book"
    Any additional comments?

I have been curious about NDE's since Raymond Moody's first book came out in the mid-70's. Indeed, I believe I had an NDE in 1985 but that is another story entirely.

This book is just about the best one I have experienced so far on NDE's (and I have gone through quite a few). The narratives are presented simply, personally and almost matter-of-factly without drama or with an effort to influence one's beliefs. As stated, there is no prejudiced view such as to "Christianity is the only way" as is, unfortunately, the theme in several NDE books. Non-religious but certainly a spiritual vein which appeals to many of us. I listened over a period of days and when the epilogue arrived I was somewhat deflated as I had been enjoying these stories so much.

Excellent narration by Simon Whistler! Sensitive yet with just the right emphasis when needed. Will be looking for more audios narrated by this talented professional.

I heartily recommend this book for the NDE "seeker" who wants to gather more information and muddle it through one's own mind and consciousness to find wisdom.

    A definite winner.

"This book about NDE nearly killed me."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Some of the people in the book dont even die.One guy gets his drink spiked and "hes just sure he died" when he went back to his hotel room. Come on. Had some good stories but really pretty vague experiences. Not what I as hoping for.

Has The Day I Died turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I,m sure there are other more interesting books on this fascinating subject.

How could the performance have been better?

I,m hyper sensitive to the narrator I think. I found i spent more time listening to his accent rather than thinking about NDE.

Could you see The Day I Died being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    NO

"Pretty good, but beware British editing"
    Any additional comments?

The stories in each of the person's own words are very well told, but the author must be British, because the stories are edited to be from a British background even when they are stories from an American. For instance, a person from Baltimore, MD talks about going to Junior School. This must be American Junior High or Middle School, and Junior School must a British term. I found this kind of editing many times. It's okay, but you may have to listen to a passage a couple of times to understand what the person is talking about. Other than that, the reader does sound a little bored or annoyed at times which is just what British readers sound like sometimes. It's a good book with a great number of NDE's to mull over.

"Best non biased account of NDE stories I have read"
If you could sum up The Day I Died in three words, what would they be?

    Non bias accounts

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Good accounts and details of NDE experiences translated by the author.

What does Simon Whistler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    The English Accent?

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

All the stories were interesting, some more than others.

    Any additional comments?

Good audio book, recommend listening too.

    "Unremarkable and Sort of True"
What would have made The Day I Died better?

More character background is needed. Where's the homework? Are these credible witnesses or not? There is no way of knowing. For example, I am highly skeptical of anyone's NDE experience that occurred under the heavy influence of drugs/alcohol.
