Publisher's summary

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy". He also speaks, with surprising intimacy and self-deprecating humor, about settling in as a senator, seeking to balance the demands of public service and family life, and his own deepening religious commitment.

At the heart of this audiobook is Senator Obama's vision of how we can move beyond our divisions to tackle concrete problems. Underlying his stories about family, friends, members of the Senate, and even the president is a vigorous search for connection: the foundation for a radically hopeful political consensus.

A senator and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a skeptic, and above all a student of history and human nature, Senator Obama has written a book of transforming power.

A Better Writer than President

This is a great book. Obama does a very fair job of detailing the nuances of ideological differences between Democrats and Republicans. He gives honest critique to his side, while giving appropriate praise when due to the conservatives. Upon reading this, I would still vote for him over his competition. His writing and perspectives demonstrated in this book make him seem like the ideal leader. It is a shame he did not live up to that promise in his Presidency. He is also a bit duplicitous in his retelling of history; choosing to blame opposition to civil rights on members of states, rather than the democratic party.

Obama is an excellent narrator and performed very well in this book.

Interesting and Hopeful

I love books read by the author, and I also love Barack Obama, despite disagreeing with some of his policies. Hearing about his life before his presidential campaign was interesting, and hearing his reasoning on many issues has given me some new political insight.

Great!

Picked this up after listening to Fire & Fury following the rec of a book club member. This restored hope and positivity for better days ahead. There is something so sophisticated albeit Presidential about President Obama's voice and the narrative captured all of it. He made some great points and left ideas to be considered. This will definitely stay one of my favorite audio books.
