Summary of Dark Money by Jane Mayer | Includes Analysis

Preview:

Dark Money by Jane Mayer profiles the wealthy donors who have funded and established organizations to promote libertarian ideals, particularly the brothers Charles and David Koch. They and their two other brothers were raised by parents who promoted free-market capitalism and were suspicious of anything related or sympathetic to Communism. The four Koch brothers inherited portions of their father's oil business, and later Charles and David conspired to buy out their other brothers' portions of the company....

Poor Summary of Book

Has Summary of Dark Money by Jane Mayer | Includes Analysis turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, this has turned me off to Instaread.

What didn’t you like about Michael Pauley’s performance?

Can't even pronounce the Koch's name properly. Really, they are the central characters.

Disappointed

I would have preferred a little more detail and analysis then was provided. I was also disappointed that the Koch brother's name was mispronounced. I felt that if trying to present yourself as knowledgeable on the subject that the name would be pronounced correctly.

Too brief to adequately cover the rich material in Mayer’s book

If this summary had gone into more detail, I️ would have found it helpful. It needed to be about 2-3 times longer to give a more nuanced feel to Mayer’s book. I️ read most of the book for my book club, got short on time, and switched to the summary to finish the book in time for my meeting. Mayer’s writing is quite dense, but the summary is not informative enough. Read the actual book if you can!

Narrarator doesn't know how to pronounce Koch..

It's Coke.. not Kotch. Right? And now, a few extra words to meet the minimum.. cool.

It's Koch, like Coke - not cotch!!!

The constant mispronunciation of "Koch" marred an otherwise good summary. That is a HUGE oversight!

Need to pronounce Koch Brothers correctly.

When putting together this piece the production should have pronounced "The Koch Brothers" correctly. Question now, what other mistakes were in the research?

Is there no editor?

Reader mispronounced 'Koch' throughout. A fail on this count doesn't inspire much confidence in your attention to detail, possibly spilling over into content.

Can't pronounce "Koch"

The narrator mispronounces name "Koch" throughout, but otherwise was fine. The summary itself was informative.

A good enough summary and critique

Narration: clear, nicely modulated and resonant, professional quality.

Content: appears to cover the salient ideas, but more examples and less reiteration would be a more fruitful listen.

Nonetheless, enough summary and analysis to guide purchasing/not purchasing the full-length edition.

Do not spend one penny on this.

This summary is useless. The whole book is about the Koch brothers and the machine reading this mispronounces Koch every single time. I am planning to try to get my money back.
