Publisher's summary

Conservative talk radio's fastest-growing superstar is also a New York Times best-selling phenomenon: the author of the groundbreaking critique of the Supreme Court, Men in Black, and the deeply personal dog lover's memoir Rescuing Sprite, Mark R. Levin now delivers the book that characterizes both his devotion to his more than 5 million listeners and his love of our country and the legacy of our Founding Fathers.

Liberty and Tyranny is Mark R. Levin's clarion call to conservative America, a new manifesto for the conservative movement for the 21st century.

In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has steadily snowballed since President Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s and resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for re-enforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is now. Conservative beliefs in individual freedoms do, in the end, stand for liberty for all Americans, while liberal dictates lead to the breakdown of civilized society - in short, tyranny.

Looking back to look to the future, Levin writes, "Conservatism is the antidote to tyranny precisely because its principles are our founding principles." And in a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming, immigration, and more -- and illustrates how change, as seen through the conservative lens, is always prudent, and always an enhancement to individual freedom.

As provocative, well-reasoned, robust, and informed as his on-air commentary, Levin's narrative will galvanize listeners to begin a new era in conservative thinking and action.

A Most Enlightening Read and A Must Have

Would you listen to Liberty and Tyranny again? Why?

Most assuredly. This book reads fast, very fast. I am interested in digesting the material at a slower pace, so as to catch more of the details. This book should, but will never be, required reading.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Liberty and Tyranny?

The epilogue was masterfully written and ties together the entirety of the earlier chapters.

What does Adam Grupper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Adam Grupper doesn't act per se, but the slight inflection changes bring a feeling of hearing old world speech.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book didn't make me laugh or cry, but it did remove quite a few blinders of which I had previously not even been aware.

Any additional comments?

Regardless of a left or right party affiliation, this book is an inspirational must read. To scoff at it is to purposefully choose to keep the blinders on.

Liberty

Hard to believe that politicians have been soo anti-American for sooo long…a good case for term limits. But more than that, we MUST TAKE THE CORRUPTION OUT OF VOTING…is this the reason Democrats keep winning???
Thank you Levin for sharing your vast knowledge…and forever standing up for me & my freedoms!! God Bless AMERICA…ASAP!!

Conservatism, classical liberalism's heir apparent

I'll be honest. I'm not a big fan of his show. Why? He can be unnecessarily short tempered with listeners at times, and he complains too much about Glenn Beck. But the book is definitely worth the read, or in this case, the listen.

Levin outlines succinctly exactly what conservative thought is, and how that conflicts with the extreme left- ie the statist. I think there are those of us who knew instinctively that something was wrong, but we could not verbalize it. It had yet to manifest itself. This book confirms everything in your gut. Tons of raw information in this book as well as important history lessons. The most important takeaway, is how the terms liberal/conservative have been so warped by propaganda, advertising and general ignorance. You may call yourself a liberal today, but that does not mean that you are the same liberal that Jefferson, et al were. If anything the liberalism of yesteryear, is reincarnated in today's conservative. Never forget that.

The only con for me was that he did not read the whole book. I think Levin carries with him a certain passion in his speech, that would have this book all the more stirring. Maybe he could put out a second edition.

Fresh Air

This book is arguably the best of its kind. Does not resort to pedantic accusations, but shows clearly the relentless onslaught of the modern of face liberalism: Political Correctness, otherwise known as Freedom Snatching.

Excellent!

Liberty & Tyranny is a fantastic book. Dr. Levin's predictive powers are a bit uncanny given that this book was researched and written before the election of President Barack Obama and discusses many of the changes that are already in the process of being championed by the new administration.

Regardless of your political persuasion, this book offers some fascinating insights into both the history of American political thought and into what the future may hold for all of us if we continue on our present course.

This book touches on many themes - history, politics, economics and social policy among them - and clarifies basic tenants of conservatism in the context of the relationship between the U.S. Constitution, the individual and the body politic.

If you are like me, once you read this book you will want to share it with others.
