Liberty and Tyranny is Mark R. Levin's clarion call to conservative America, a new manifesto for the conservative movement for the 21st century.
In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has steadily snowballed since President Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s and resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for re-enforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is now. Conservative beliefs in individual freedoms do, in the end, stand for liberty for all Americans, while liberal dictates lead to the breakdown of civilized society - in short, tyranny.
Looking back to look to the future, Levin writes, "Conservatism is the antidote to tyranny precisely because its principles are our founding principles." And in a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming, immigration, and more -- and illustrates how change, as seen through the conservative lens, is always prudent, and always an enhancement to individual freedom.
As provocative, well-reasoned, robust, and informed as his on-air commentary, Levin's narrative will galvanize listeners to begin a new era in conservative thinking and action.

I'll be honest. I'm not a big fan of his show. Why? He can be unnecessarily short tempered with listeners at times, and he complains too much about Glenn Beck. But the book is definitely worth the read, or in this case, the listen.
Levin outlines succinctly exactly what conservative thought is, and how that conflicts with the extreme left- ie the statist. I think there are those of us who knew instinctively that something was wrong, but we could not verbalize it. It had yet to manifest itself. This book confirms everything in your gut. Tons of raw information in this book as well as important history lessons. The most important takeaway, is how the terms liberal/conservative have been so warped by propaganda, advertising and general ignorance. You may call yourself a liberal today, but that does not mean that you are the same liberal that Jefferson, et al were. If anything the liberalism of yesteryear, is reincarnated in today's conservative. Never forget that.
The only con for me was that he did not read the whole book. I think Levin carries with him a certain passion in his speech, that would have this book all the more stirring. Maybe he could put out a second edition.
I had noticed "Liberty and Tyranny" on the NYTimes bestseller list and chose to listen to it. I was not disappointed and my point of view on current events shifted some. I did not dismiss the book because it was written by a conservative and I am glad that I didn't. I found it helpful in many ways.
In particular, listeners will receive more than a primer on US history, the constitution, current events and on and on. More importantly, Levin makes his points with hard data which is encouraging. He has negative reviews for Democrats and Republications.
Essentially, he is calling for a return to the organizing principles of our country as exhibited in the US Constitution. Those who favor larger government will come away with a reasoned argument against such direction and an appreciation for the hazards such government brings. Those who favor smaller government will also be informed.
The writing is interesting, informative, and exciting. The reading is great. The book will disturb everyone who listens to it. If you are concerned about the future of America (from any walk of life or philosophy) this is a good book. I'll get out and vote in every election now - for certain.
I would also encourage audible fans to consider Mark Levin's book about the Supreme Court titled "Men in Black." It is more of a protrait of the court and its members and not ideological in point of view.
Remember the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution? Mark Levin offers an excellent breakdown of what it means to be an American, how fortunate we are have the foundation of liberty, and how much it is at risk. If you have any interest in waking up and taking action to get your country back, please ready/listen to this book.
Mark Levin is the consummate professional. He lets you know what he believes and why. This is a must read for anyone!
I'm a politically conservative, technologically inclined, open-minded, all American citizen of this great terrestrial ball we call home. I keep my head in the clouds, I love Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels but I keep my feet on the ground, I stay informed on news and current events, and I love the fact that I can still form and express my own opinions in this great nation we call The Untied States.
I found this book very informative about the conservative movement and where our country is headed. I would recommend everyone get this book no matter your party affiliation.
Timeless yet timely; this is a fresh, clear collection of the pillars of conservatism. Juxtaposed against the natural tendency to 'throw in the towel' for the ever-burgeoning nation state, Mark exposes root causes for today's issues and problems (many having festered and grown over the last 70 years). He brilliantly wraps it all up in the epilogue chapter.
As an engineer, I highly regard Mark's thorough research. This book contains a wealth of data supporting each claim.
The first chapter is read by Mark. And, although the remaining chapters are not, Mr. Grupper is a fine speaker and was easy to listen to.
The US will only remain a great nation if we the citizens find our moorings under the responsibilities of liberty. We must reject these subversive attepts to replace this precious liberty with soft tyranny.
Mr. Levin has obviously put a lot of time and energy into this masterpiece of conservative think. If you are a person who considers yourself a political conservative, a believer in the free-market, capitalism, federalism and the associated freedoms that made our country the most prosperous and devoutly free nation the world has ever known, then this book is a MUST READ. It is the new conservatives bible.
If, on the other hand, you consider yourself a liberal or socialist (it is getting very hard to tell the difference) I challenge you to challenge Liberty and Tyranny, put your beliefs to the test against this book. Mr. Levins expertly researched book makes an almost irrefutable case as to why our liberal friends socialist leanings will lead nowhere other than complete financial and social ruin for our beloved country.
If you are a centralist, part of that undecided 20%-25% going into each election, you NEED to read this book. Once you have absorbed this information I would be willing to bet your middle-of-the-road days are over. It is about time you got down off that fence and pick a side, the future of our nation stands in the balance! Get informed, stop making decisions based on 60 second commercials, who looks and sounds the best, or who has the best slogan. Get educated and make sound political decisions to protect your future and that of your family. This book will truly give you the tools to do just that.
Mark was ambitious in this book. He went to the foundation of western thought. He looked at what deep thinkers across the centuries have said about what makes humans thrive and what liberty really is and is not. I found the book hard going in places but always compelling. It reinforced my belief in the concept of less government, the need for a moral society that finds meaning in its religeous beliefs and the basic right of private property. Our constitution is a profoundly meaningful and clear document which we have allowed to be repeatedly subverted and wich the corrent administration desires to bend and twist beyound recognition.
Don't Tread On Me
It's a tough start for the average person, because it is so packed with details and technical information, but it gets easier as it goes, and finishes with some of the best expressed information anyone who values this great country could learn. We don't live in the greatest country in history by chance, and this book helps you understand how it is in danger, and how we can begin to preserve it.
This is an incredible book. He breaks down everything that is happening by giving concise, historically accurate information. I have always been interested in trying to understand how best to be governed. I thought that was the only choice we had... I have been really trying to do my research, I've studied some of Reagan, I read up on what makes Scott Walkers' act 10 so controversial, and I've looked at some general libertarian publications. It is all about giving the power back to the people to make all the decisions about their lives, within law. This book put a lot of pieces together for more. Some of the ideas in I am still reasoning with to understand, but I get it. This affirms what I now believe. This is going to take time. We NEED to get the message out there, in a sincere way. We can't complain about what the statists are doing, many are just sheep. We need to sincerely tell them what makes individual liberty the only way to be truly free in a civil society.
