Do these striking parallels mean that today's liberals are genocidal maniacs, intent on conquering the world and imposing a new racial order? Not at all. Yet it is hard to deny that modern progressivism and classical fascism shared the same intellectual roots. The modern heirs of a "friendly fascist" tradition include the New York Times, the Democratic Party, the Ivy League professoriate, and the liberals of Hollywood. Well constructed case

This book carefully constructs the author's case that modern liberalism or progressivism is tantamount to modern facism. The historical framework of both Mussolini and Wilson are eerily familiar to things that we are seeing today. The concept of "central planning" and its popularity within the progressive movement is Orwellian in every sense. Excellent, thought provoking book. I will agree with one of the reviewers that the narration is a bit overdone, but the content is worth it.

A more clear picture

it's interesting, the way the term Liberal has been twisted into a pretzel. On one side is Freedom, and on the other, government control. it obviously doesn't matter anymore what you call yourself. That's always the real choice... Freedom vs government control. But it's never clearly explained in the light of day to most people.

Serious book to grapple with for all

Outstandingly written, cogently argued and persuasive. The author names and reviews aspects of recent history that have been ignored; the historical survey and analysis alone worth the cost of the book.

Great Book

Great book. Narrator was weak, almost whispering at times. Will listen to again. We know who the true fascists are.

Like everything you were taught is a lie.

This reminds me of the scene in Orwell's 1984 when the people HATED the enemy and suddenly big brother says your enemy is your friend and your friend is your enemy.

To say Hitler was a right-winger is laughable. Goldberg says Hitler followed the very left Marx, and Nietzsche, not the conserative Adam Smith, or John Locke.

Hitler was a revolutionary and sought to tear down everything thing so he could build his superman.

The puzzle is complete.

After reading this book, the only thing I can say is WOW! All the things that I knew were wrong, but didnt know why, became clear. The mask came off the lie of liberalism and progressivism and how really evil it all is, you know...based on "compassion" and "giving to the unfortunate." GREAT BOOK!! This should be the starter book for all to read who want to know what is going on right now in our government in 2010.

Interesting

The book was very interesting in the arguments the author makes about fascism and the left. His main argument is that it is crazy to relate Bush to Hitler because Hitler has more incommon with any left-wing whacko. Lefties are socialists, and Hitler was just as far left as they are.

Thought-Provoking

If you're interested in intellectual history and modern political discourse, this book should be on your list. Goldberg's engaging prose and accessible distallation of thinkers and arguments spring to life in this audiobook.
