Publisher's summary

For centuries people have speculated about the wild things that might live deep within the woods. One popular theory is witches; people believe witches live in the forest and cast curses on those who enter. This may be rooted in the many fairy tales which depict the exact same thing.

Some people also believe that wild creatures, such as the ones described in ancient folklore and mythology, hide within the trees, and seek to scare you. These creatures include everything from angels, to devils, to demons. Some people even believe woodland nymphs and goblins inhabit the forest.

There is no way to determine what spirits are going to stick around and what spirits will move on. Some people who died a horrible, gruesome death are able to move on, but others who simply don't know they died, or are in denial, will not move on. They will continue to walk among the living, sometimes trying to communicate, sometimes trying to torment....

Whatever the reason may be, these woods end up haunted by one or multiple ghosts, which makes for some pretty scary experiences for those who are still living.

If you're reading this, you're probably one of the brave souls who aren't scared of a little fright. But I warn you, these woods will give you more than just a little fright. Or, you may be one of the clever ones who know supernatural forces are nothing to be messed with, so you prefer to just hear about them instead....

Here is a preview of what's inside:

  • A haunted treasure hunt
  • The devil's tramping ground
  • The devil of Pine Barrens
  • Hoia Baciu - the forest of UFOs
  • The headless ghost of Dow Hill
  • Island of the dolls
  • Much, much more!

Haunted Woods

This is a short compilation of stories each about hauntings in and around a forest. These stories are quick and simple. They give more of a wrap up than delving into the forest and what might happen there. This seems more like short histories and blurbs on these places. Narrator Kevin Theis seems to be overexcited in his narration almost as if he is yelling the book to you.

Good Car Ride Listen

This is more like the reading of an online Wiki of notable haunted forest and the urban legends that surround them. The narrator is very exuberant and almost sounds like a carnival barker or someone telling tales by a campfire. It's entertaining and not very scary. I'd say it's good for a quick car ride.

Good Retelling of Haunted Woods Locations

I enjoyed this book, didn't learn a whole lot that I didn't already know, but I still enjoy listening to different people's descriptions of the well know haunted woods. There were a few things that I hadn't heard but all in all the average person who enjoys paranormal books/tv shows will be well versed in the majority of these. As with all of these type of stories, my only compliant is that I wish there were more to it. The book is over way to soon as I assume there are many more places to talk about. Kevin Theis does a great job narrating documentary style books. His voice definitely adds to the telling of the book and removes the text book type feel that you can get with this style of book. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

I barely got past the dissertation of why woods could be haunted and felt like the narrator was just yelling the whole time
