Publisher's summary

The number-one New York Times best-selling author and popular radio and television host Glenn Beck revisits Thomas Paine's Common Sense.

"If you believe it's time to put principles above parties, character above campaign promises, and Common Sense above all - then I ask you to read this book...."

In any era, great Americans inspire us to reach our full potential. They know with conviction what they believe within themselves. They understand that all actions have consequences. And they find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.

One such American, Thomas Paine, was an ordinary man who changed the course of history by penning Common Sense, the concise 1776 masterpiece in which, through extraordinarily straightforward and indisputable arguments, he encouraged his fellow citizens to take control of America's future -- and, ultimately, her freedom.

Nearly two and a half centuries later, those very freedoms once again hang in the balance. And now, Glenn Beck revisits Paine's powerful treatise with one purpose: to galvanize Americans to see past government's easy solutions, two-part monopoly, and illogical methods, and take back our great country.

Must Read!

Parts of the book make you say "hmmmmm" after you read it. Other parts will make blood shoot out of your eyes(as GB has often said). Read it and learn something about "OUR" government.

Required reading for Americans

I believe a LOT of politicians will resent this book. Like the original by Thomas Paine, the book lays out the abuses we have suffered under the guise of the pols "serving" the elected. They forget who works for whom. Though I am sure it will be attacked as "anti-Obama", it is just as much a book about the Republicans who have placed a burden of laws upon us that they are not subject to.
Please read this book, if you want to see true Hope and Change in the USA.

Very Entertaining

I love Glenn Beck's passion in this audiobook. He makes great points and if you agree with him or not you feel like he is speaking to you as an equal, not some uppity know-it-all.

Common Sense, read by Glen Beck

A wonderful work by Thomas Paine read by Glen Beck. I listened to this audio book almost three times before laying it aside. I will pick it back up again, and again I am sure. The first portion is comment from Glen, and I found it very informational and encouraging. You can the reader was full of passion and at times the rise of the voice was almost irritating. However, the context was 100% worth the listen.

The actual work of Thomas Paine is priceless. I agree this should be required reading and study for every young person in America, and even the world. Very much worth your time to consider.

Beck makes good sense, I wish it were more common

Glenn Beck presents a hard-hitting, but absolutely accurate view of the problems that partisan politics have wrought in the past 50+ years. He asks the reader to declare his or her independence from the party-line vote and to research and choose candidates for what they stand for and how their past record indicates they truly lean. By doing so, the independent voters become the most sought after demographic by both Republican and Democratic pundits. Then, the values of the working class American people will finally be recognized. Beck has his finger on the pulse of the current political and cultural scene. A great read and some excellent points on the failure of our public school system to teach the "real" history that is so conveniently left out of our school books these days - and how that has affected our culture!

Yes and No

Before hearing this book, I thought Glenn Beck was a different kind of conservative -- a more enlightened one who had left behind the baggage of intolerance. Indeed, in the first half of the book, he demonstrates a remarkably concise grasp of the root causes behind America's current crises. Like me, he hails individual freedom as the consummate value underpinning the greatness of our country.

But then, in a disappointing turn typical of contemporary conservatism, he enshrines two of freedom's nemeses, religion (You gotta have God) and immigration intolerance (We need a big fence around the U.S.), as being somehow consistent with the concept of individual freedom. That did it for me. I couldn't finish the book.

While I generally prefer author narration, Mr. Beck can become excited, noisy, and irritating when trying to make a critical point. To me, this was distracting.
