Wow. Eye opening

I had no idea about any of this because I'm not a big investor. I just like to watch the markets.

This makes the average person even more leery about the forces against most to ever win in the stock market.

Lewis at his best

An intriguing story of not just what is wrong with Wall Street, but how it got that way. It has a great balance of depth and simplicity that tells the tale of how high speed traders have been pilfering the world's stock markets one millisecond at a time.

Definitely A Worthwhile Learning Experience

I majored in business administration with finance as a sub major and thought I knew how Wall Street worked. Turns out I was just as ignorant as everyone else. This book takes technical boring issues and makes them easy to understand and compelling enough to keep your attention. It was well paced, kept the finicial jargon to a minimum, and still remained brutally honest throughout. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand American finance in the 21st century and how it has changed in a way that screws individual investors 99% of the time.

It's Michael Lewis, so you know it's good

If Michael Lewis decided to write about about the history of the way that moss grew on a random tree in Pennsylvania, I would read it. I would pay to read it.

This is a book you can read in one sitting. It's exciting, entertaining, funny, and you will be amazed.

And you will remember from previous Lewis books, that Wall Street is always up to no good.

Gotta love Michael Lewis

What did you love best about Flash Boys?

Very entertaining and I feel more educated on the ways high frequency traders make money. I love how he tells a story and the facts that he digs up. He really goes above and beyond to dig up interesting data.

What other book might you compare Flash Boys to and why?

The Big Short.

What about Dylan Baker’s performance did you like?

Great voice and great inflection.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I couldn't stop listening as I wanted to hear what happened next.

Any additional comments?

The only part of the book that didn't make sense to me is his how the little guy is getting hurt. In the end of course we all pay for any extra expense to the system but his argument seemed to suggest the mom and pop investor gets hurt the most. Front Running a trade in his description is putting out small orders of under $10,000 at a good price to find out what the big guys are willing to buy and sell at. Thus the little guy gets filled at the good price and never gets taken on the large order. It's the large orders that lose on the trade as they get front run at the next exchange. This is a minor comment and the book is great.

Nothing new here-we all love Michael Lewis

Where does Flash Boys rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'd put it at the top of Michael Lewis books, and near the top of my favorites list.

What did you like best about this story?

He has a gift for storytelling. He.just.does.

What does Dylan Baker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a fine job narrating.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

If you don't have an extreme reaction, you are probably just an immoral HFT chuckling at how you run the table on everyone else.

Any additional comments?

Get it. You won't be sorry.

Explains a complicated subject well

As in past books, Michael Lewis has broken down a complex financial subject into much simpler and explainable components. The flash crash is explained beyond just the term. Why it happened and who caused it are outlined in stories and with personalities. This book is probably not as good as The Big Short but still well worth reading/hearing.

Worth a listen - interesting topic

I enjoyed the book very much. My only complaint is that it could have been 33% shorter if the author did not keep repeating certain elements over and over again.
