Unlikely pig owners Steve and Derek got a whole lot more than they bargained for when the designer micropiglet they adopted turned out to be a full-sized 600-pound sow! In the best-selling tradition of pet memoirs such as Oogy, Dewey, and Giant George, the story of Esther the Wonder Pig shows how families really do come in all shapes and sizes.
In the summer of 2012, Steve Jenkins was contacted by an old friend about adopting a micropiglet. Though he knew his partner, Derek, wouldn't be enthusiastic, he agreed to take the adorable little pig anyway, thinking he could care for her himself. Little did he know, that decision would change his and Derek's lives forever.
It turned out there was nothing "micro" about Esther, and Steve and Derek had actually signed on to raise a full-size commercial pig. Within three years tiny Esther grew to a whopping 600 pounds. After some real growing pains and a lot of pig-size messes, it became clear that Esther needed much more space, so Steve and Derek made another life-changing decision: They bought a farm and opened the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary, where they could care for Esther and other animals in need.
Funny, heartwarming, and utterly charming, Esther the Wonder Pig follows Steve and Derek's adventure - from reluctant pig parents to farm-owning advocates for animals.

"Funny, moving, and heartwarming. The greatest love story ever told between two men and their pig. " (Ricky Gervais)
"First, Jenkins and Walter opened their hearts to one very special pig, and now they are opening their doors and letting us in, too. Esther the Wonder Pig is a tender, funny story that manages to sneak up behind you when you're least expecting it and change your life. Be prepared to fall in love-with a pig." (Jasmin Singer, author of Always Too Much and Never Enough: A Memoir and cohost of Our Hen House)
I listened the the last two hours of this book while on a hike in the early morning of Sunday, June 12th. I marveled at the profound love that Derek and Steve have not only for each other but for Esther and all the other animals in their lives. I laughed, I cried, I hit rewind to hear parts again. It's the best love story ever.
Then I got in my car and turned on NPR and heard the horrifying news of the mass shooting in Orlando. The love radiating from Steve, Derek and Esther has carried me through. This is the best book in my library. I give it DOUBLE five stars in all categories. ❤️❤️❤️
This book is a MUST read!!!
This book will change your way of thinking about ALL farm animals! EVERY animal IS Esther & deserves to live a beautiful life free of harm.
We love you Esther, Steve & Derek ❤🐽
I have followed the story of Esther, and to hear Steve read about his beloved family member, Esther the Wonder Pig, was truly an honor! I am SO GLAD Steve was the narrator. His love, humor and compassion just spilled into every word.
I loved this book because the narrator was also a character in the story, and the emotions were true. When Steve got choked up, we all cried! When Steve laughed, we all laughed. And I love that Canadian accent.
No although I knew I had to have the audible version when Steve was on Facebook live reading the book to Esther (anyone have a tissue?).
Yes, and I did!
I alway thought I hated audiobooks, until I bought this one.
Great fun! I loved the story even though I am already severely addicted to Esther's social media and familiar with your amazing work and attitude.
Loved dad Steve's narration. Pleae consider adding your giggle as a ring tone.
I must admit I'm not much of a reader. It takes a lot to keep my attention but I absolutely loved this book! I fell in love with Steve and Derrick and their wonderful hectic life with Esther! This is an eye opening true story and it is now my goal in life to go visit Happily Ever Esther!
Definitely in the man, I'm glad I listened to this column.
With Esther sitting watching breakfast being made the moment Steve and Derek realized what the sizzling bacon in the frying pan represented.
The love and enthusiasm in his voice is infectious!
I shed some tears, laughed some laughs, and was happily enveloped by a cloud of overwhelming love, dedication, and devotion.
This is a wonderful, heartwarming tale! Uplifting, a little scary (considering what could have happened to Esther if she hadn't found a home with Steve and Derek), and just downright enjoyable!!!!
Absolutely! The fact that one of Esther's Dads read it makes it so much more personable. I have followed Esther for a long, long time. Found out things I didn't know. I laughed out loud at times, cried a couple of times and really enjoyed this light-hearted read!
The meaning of loving all animals.
Well, Esther, of course!
Many. One was when Steve and Derek were getting ready to move to the farm, and Steve was alone in the backyard with Esther explaining.
Thank you to two wonderfully kind-hearted, gentle, amazing men who "will change the world one heart at a time"..
"this will change hearts and minds"
the audio version became available whilst I was awaiting my hard copy of the book to arrive in the UK. not my usual format but heck I wanted the whole story. LOVE this story - it has changed my whole world. Esther found her voice through her Dads and their gentle and often hair-raising story is one we can all learn from. unconditional love and respect for all nature.
I bought the book because I love Esther and wanted to support the work of her dads. I wasn't expecting it to be an amazing book, but it is the first book I have ever had on audible that I listened to the whole of in one sitting :) made me so happy, thank you!
Fantastic narrator- it is so important and he did a great job.
The tangible distress of the urine-soaked house and the sobbing dads scrubbing the basement. That moment lead them to true happiness.
