Publisher's summary

In the wake of tragic shootings in Newtown and Aurora, the anti-gun lobby has launched a campaign of lies, distortion, misrepresentation, and emotional manipulation that is breathtaking in its vitriol and its denial of basic facts. Their goal is to take away our Second Amendment rights and then disarm law-abiding Americans.

Emily Miller tells her personal story of how being a single, female victim of a home invasion drove her to try to obtain a legally registered gun in Washington, D.C. The narrative - sometimes shocking, other times hilarious in its absurdity - gives the listener a real-life understanding of how gun-control laws only make it more difficult for honest, law-abiding people to get guns, while violent crime continues to rise.

Using facts and newly uncovered research, Miller exposes the schemes politicians on Capitol Hill, in the White House, and around the country are using to deny people their Second Amendment rights. She exposes the myths that gun grabbers and liberal media use to get new laws passed that infringe on our right to keep and bear arms.

The gun rights debate isn't just about firearms. It's about protecting a fundamental right that is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. It's about politicians who lie, manipulate, and outright break existing laws to get what they want. It's about President Obama wanting a bigger federal government to control you. Not just your guns - you. The fight for gun rights is the fight for freedom. Emily Miller says stand up and fight back now because your Second Amendment will only be the first to go.

A bureaucratic horror story

Have you listened to any of Carla Mercer-Meyer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I thought Carla did a great job and will look for other performances by her.

Any additional comments?

Emily opened my eyes to how our rights can be taken from us through bureaucracy. Her experience should be a warning to those who think a little bit of regulation is ok. The book is not just stats upon stats, but a story with statistics mixed in. Very enjoyable.

SUPERB NEW BOOK ON OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

Would you listen to Emily Gets Her Gun again? Why?

This outstanding book will now be a permanent research fixture in my library, to be consulted whenever I want knowledge about our Constitutional rights in general and the Second Amendment in particular.

What other book might you compare Emily Gets Her Gun to and why?

"Emily Gets Her Gun" combines the best attributes of an excellent primer on the whole range of firearms-related issues with ample information for people who may be more experienced in the topic of guns in our culture, politics, and legal traditions of personal liberty.

What does Carla Mercer-Meyer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Carla Mercer-Meyer brings an energy and emotive subtext to this story of a young woman's journey from complete unfamiliarity with firearms to being a knowledgeable gun owner and one of America's most articulate and effective gun rights advocates. Her narration is the perfect complement to this book's irresistible pace and rhythm.

If you could give Emily Gets Her Gun a new subtitle, what would it be?

If I were to give the book a different subtitle it would be: "Emily Gets Her Gun: Why Your Freedoms Matter and the Politicians Who Threaten Them."

Any additional comments?

If you know nothing about guns, if you are afraid of guns, if you don't understand the many public issues related to guns, or if you have spent your entire life around guns--as a private citizen, hunter, soldier, law enforcement officer--read this book. I can guarantee you will know far more and have a much clearer understanding of our right to keep and bear arms when you have finished it. As a bonus, you will also have a lot of fun with a really good read!

Wealth of Knowledge.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book not just to a friend but to everyone. The reason is that it has a lot of knowledge about facts and the steps of getting a handgun in Washington DC. It also shows how the laws does not make sense for the law abiding citizens.

Fact loaded book

Would you consider the audio edition of Emily Gets Her Gun to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print version

What does Carla Mercer-Meyer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Enjoyed her voice and the way she read the book

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I don't want to live in Washington DC

Any additional comments?

I found the book extremely interesting and loaded with pro-gun facts. It amazes me that it is so difficult in our nation’s capital it is so to get a gun for home protection, much less get one you can carry for personal protection. It serves as important reminder not to let this anti-gun movement spread. Really enjoyed the book and the reader.

Excellent!

Very well written book, it covers all the bases and touches on all the underhanded methods being used by the left to take away our rights.

I think Emily Miller done an amazing job describing the rediculous gun control laws in DC.
It brings to light the sheer audacity of the Obama administration and Liberals and the sneaky corrupt, lying anti American war on our rights.
Everyone should read this book if not only to understand gun laws but to hear first hand how corrupt the Liberal movement has become.
