Publisher's summary

Darwin's theory of evolution is accepted by most educated Americans as simple fact. This easy acceptance, however, hides from us the many ways in which evolution - as an idea - shapes our thinking about a great many things. What if this idea is wrong? What if "evolution" is just a word that covers up scientific ignorance of how the wonders of the living world could have been created?

Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson looks at the evidence for Darwinistic evolution the way a lawyer would - with a cold dispassionate eye for logic and proof. His discovery is that scientists have put the cart before the horse. They prematurely accepted Darwin's theory as fact and have been scrambling to find evidence for it - mostly unsuccessfully. As the evidentiary difficulties have piled up, scientists have clung to the theory out of fear of encouraging religious fundamentalism, and in the process have turned belief in Darwinism into their own religion.

What needed to be said.

This book, 30+ years old as I read it for the second time, says what needed to be said, and what still needs to be said, to the theologically dogmatic evolutionary science community. To persist in a belief in this ancient ideology destroys credibility in “science”, which continues to trade bias control and the value of evidence for a philosophy floating in mid air. We need more Phillip Johnson’s.

Great book

If you believe Darwinism or are opposed to it, I think this book will be very interesting to you. I recommend it. It’s eye opening to say the least.

Sincerely, Pastor Paul Trimble

Pretty good book

I quite liked this book. I would certainly disagree with the reviewers who felt that this book was a fraud, or that it contained no facts, etc. In fact, I haven't really seen what I would consider a good post against it here (granted, as I write this, there are only 9 reviews, some of those are positive, so it's not a real large sample) The book does a good job of laying out why the author believes there are holes in Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Thoe who claim that it pushes "Creationism" are clearly listening with a bias, as it does no such thing. The author spends his time pointing out what he believes are flaws in Darwin's theory & sharing why he thinks so. If you are a die-hard evolutionist, you will probably hate the book. If you are a die-hard creationist, you will probably love it. If you are open minded about these kinds of things, you may well find it interesting to hear this perspective on the argument.

Many people don't get it

Read (or listen to) this book. Some of the reviews offered here only present negative comments without adding any substance of their own. My recommendation...READ or LISTEN to this book and judge for yourself. Then, do further research and see how flawed and refuted evolution is. I would suggest The Priviledge Planet as a good follow-up to get the entire picture of the bogus Evolution story.

Interesting

Logical approach to a current issue gaining increasing attention.
Hits key issues and provides solid framework for assessment of the big issues.
Slows down at points and becomes a bit redundant
Overall a good book

The book is okay, but the narrator is a bad fit for this book. He might be a okay for novels but it was very difficult to listen to him narrate this book. I wish the narrator different because it distracted me from the content of the book. As for the content of the book, there were some good points. If the narrator was better I probably would have gotten more out of this.

Illuminating and educating

Be careful, this book could change the way you view so-called scientific experts as well as their discoveries. The author takes you through the logic of Darwin and his supporters, and shows you how to analyze the arguments for the assumptions of evolution. This is one that requires multiple listens because there is so much good information. The reader is fair and could be a little clearer, but the material is enlightening.

Very Interesting

Amazing how much of Darwin's theory cannot hold up to scrutiny, yet it taught and held as established fact. Amazing.

Honest look at the “fact” of evolution

Great understanding of Darwin’s Evolution. But is Darwinism protected? Is it allowed to be tested and questioned? Is it more about protecting and promoting a worldview that is God-less? What are the things causing scientists to be restless about Darwinism?

Wrong Catagory - Misleading Title.

If I could I would give this book zero stars, it is a complete distortion.

This book belongs in "Religion", not Science. You don't prove a theory by disproving it's opposite. Lawyers should stick to perverting the laws and getting the guilty off scott-free, not trying to do any actual thinking - they may hurt themselves or more importantly, hurt somebody else. This book relies on the general public's lack of education about science to misrepresent Darwin's theory, and the evidence supporting it.
