Publisher's summary

This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

Through a series of essays, Sowell presents an in-depth look at key beliefs behind many policies and trends. He presents eye-opening insights into the development of the ghetto culture, a culture cheered on toward self-destruction by white liberals who consider themselves "friends" of blacks.

Black Rednecks and White Liberals is the capstone of decades of outstanding research and writing on racial and cultural issues by Thomas Sowell.

Lots of information in this one yet...

He often ignores or rather doesn't discuss key historical facts. His comparison to black americans and other oppressed groups living in america, black were robbed of their history and language, other groups had that. also, the other groups weren't subjected to 100s of years of SYSTEMATIC racism / oppression on all levels of the government. He made other good points such as it's up to the group to change their behavior, and western europe wasn't the first or worst in history, to inflict slavery on other indigenous groups.

Required Reading

This book should be required reading for everyone trying to make sense of the world. It is refreshing to hear history presented as objective facts first and foremost. Subjective interpretation is restricted through the lense of that objectivity.

A Must-Read for anyone interested in Politics

At least 2/3 of this book would be dangerous for a white guy to repeat or quote on social media. However, it doesn't mean the information within is not accurate. It just happens to pertain to the single hottest button topic in America right now.

If you'd like a more accurate historical explanation for the assimilation of minorities around the globe, look no further. This book is chalk full of quotes, historical data, statistics, and personal research regarding the history of of the Antebellum South and it's progress (or should I say regress) in many ways.

I enjoyed the read and will recommend it to friends and family

A Clarion Call For People

This book undoubtedly provided facts and figures that do not align with current popular talking points on both the left and right. In the USA, life isn't perfect, but for the most part, people can do what they want to achieve excellence, and we should not listen to those who would benefit from popularizing division and are nonprogressive talking points. He critiqued popular issues like racism, education and how they affected each group across time in the USA's 19th and 20th centuries.

I definitely would have my child read this book, or at least listen to it, before their teen years to keep them grounded and strong-willed.

Thorough & immersive

Excellent & thorough scholarship. He takes the reader around the world & back for an immersive sociological, economic, cultural, & educational examination of many people groups around the world - including worldwide slavery & the people of the antebellum South. The title of the book, while attention grabbing, doesn’t do the book’s content justice. A must read.

riveting, it's scary how his insights are holding true in 2021 how blind the general public is.
