Publisher's summary

Bernard Goldberg takes dead aim at the America Bashers (the cultural elites who look down their snobby noses at "ordinary" Americans and detest so much of what this country is about); the Hollywood Blowhards (incredibly ditzy celebrities who think they're smart just because they're famous); the TV Schlockmeisters (including the one whose show has been compared to a churning mass of maggots devouring rotten meat); the Intellectual Thugs (big-wigs at some of our best colleges, whose views run the gamut from left-wing to far left-wing); and many more.

Goldberg names names, profiling the villains in his rogues' gallery, one by one, from 100 down to 1, and yes, you-know-who is #37. But Goldberg doesn't just round up the usual suspects we have come to know and detest. He also exposes some of the people who operate away from the limelight but still manage to pull a lot of strings and do all sorts of harm to our culture.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America is about a country where as long as anything goes, sooner or later everything will go.

Read it if you really care about your country

Bernie is as always honest and to the point. I don't agree with everyone on the list. But it is apparent that many in this country have been duped into certain modes of thinking because for many years we had no one but the NY Times, celebrities who don't know what on earth they are talking about, and the network media to tell us what to think. They are all here including some of my own favorites. To the reviewer below who can't understand Carter on this list--you obviously didn't live through his disasterous years at the White House when America was demoralized by Middle Eastern radicals who kidnapped and abused our citizens. Hopefully the power that the 100 "honored Americans" in this book hold over the duped will continue to wane as people like Bernie for help us see the light.

Goldberg nails it again

I've been a fan of Bernie Goldberg from his news days, but especially since he broke the code of silence about bias in network news. Liberal or conservative, there isn't a person on this list that didn't need the scolding he dished out.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America

Don't bother!!!!!! The guy is parroting all the war mongers and creeps he knows or knows of. Doesn't even deserve one star.

Stupidity

Bernard Goldberg is just like the elite people he rants about. Thinking that the average American doesn't have the sense to make up his/her own mind about how America stands. Its a one-sided book and really a waste of time, except to the author that gets the bucks for writing such drivel. On both sides of the line there are idiots that are ruining American, including George Bush, but Mr. Goldberg is so far in George's camp that he can't smell the crap. He talks about deceny and fairness and thats great, except it doesn't apply to the author.

Hypocritical, Superficial, Transparent

Goldberg promisses a balanced critique of the cultural elites. Unfortunately, all he delivers is an obvious tirade against 100 people who, in providing criticism of government, culture, and society have offended Goldberg's narrow sense of propriety. In so doing, Goldberg falls into the same traps he accuses of his targets-- political correctness (from a conservative interpretation in Goldberg's case), name-calling, character assassination, and just plain shallowness. Even his purported wit is mean-spirited as he betrays former colleagues to cash in on the "everything conservative is profitable" movement in America today. If one is looking for a solid critique of the left, this, sadly, is not it, because it has more in common with Rush than with Wm. F. or even George Will.
Read this if you are entertained by "sticking it to the man." Everyone else who enjoys thinking can give it a pass.

HILARIOUS!!!

This book kept laughing from 100 all the way to No. 1. Bernard Goldberg takes aim at a large cross-section of people and nails them all. I would have added a couple here and there, but I couldn't argue with anyone in the top 10.

Deadly accurate and very entertaining; Great Stuff

If you watch agree with the editorial page of the NYT and think Chris Matthews is an objective, fair and balanced journalist, you will hate this book. If you can think independently and critically, you will like this book very much, just as I did.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America

Funny, but my list seems to be different: For instance, number 37 is Bernard Goldberg. Screwing up America as defined by record deficits, daily casualties in Iraq, Osama still free, Bush's record-breaking vacations, out-sourcing jobs and the attempt to turn America into a theocracy just like Iran. Exposing the documented lies, demanding resposibility for the outing of a CIA agent, criticizing the corruption of those like Tom Delay and Rick Santorum is not America Bashing- it's the opposite. This administration is by far the most corrupt, anti-American in history- Hitler would be proud.

Worst audible book I've ever downloaded

First it sounded funny - not the book, justed the picks.
Then it became clear, that he has an agenda. The authors name should be somewhere near the top; the only reason not to put him at number one is his limited influence.

So thought provoking!

I'm surprised that anyone could give this book one star. No one will agree with every name on the list, as the author acknowledges early on. But these people do have an impact, each in his/her own way, on the direction our country is going and it is very worthwhile listening.
