I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
It is now 9 months after the end of Accountable to None. The protagonist Audra Tanner is now managing partner of the accounting firm Winscott & Associates. The evil former managing partner Olin Kemper is in jail awaiting trial for murder. Business has suffered from news of two major partner who committed murder. Audra and the cop who arrested the old partners have started a relationship.
Twists and turns occur frequently in this series as does very intense suspense as a crazy female former partner returns determined to free Olin Kemper and kill everyone she considers his enemy. Warning: this series is dark, extremely violent, rather profane, very fascinating and addictive. Author Ashley Fontainne has a devious mind! Narration is excellent; however, this series would be better with both a female and a male narrator because it is written in the first person of both female and male characters. Audible classifies this book as a legal thriller. It is not; it is a suspense thriller.
Zero Balance is the second book in the Eviscerating the Snake series by Ashley Fontainne. In the first book, Accountable to None, we are introduced to the employees and partners in the prestigious Arizona accounting firm of Winscott & Associates, where the unspeakable happens daily by Olin, the managing partner, and everyone turns a blind eye to his torrid acts. Not anymore. Our heroine, Audra, puts an end to Olin’s tyranny and he is now behind bars.
Zero Balance begins one week prior to Olin's trial. Audra is now managing partner at the firm and dealing with the aftermath of shacking things up with the firm, including dealing with clients who are bailing over the scandal surrounding the firm. The remaining partners at the firm begin to retaliate against her seeking their own vengeance.
Ms. Fontainne does a very good job of summarizing the first book at the beginning of this one. So, it is not necessary to listen to the first one beforehand to understand the story. She also does an excellent job of getting into the mind of Piper, a mentally unstable former partner.
Like in the first book, Sara Morsey’s narration was excellent. She portrayed Piper as a truly demented individual, while at the same time bringing out the calm and stress in Audra. I can’t wait to listen to book three!
It makes me happy to wake up everyday and look forward to listening. Many times I listen while doing artwork. I find it very relaxing.
Yes it most definitely did keep me on the edge of my seat and lingering on every word. You get to know the characters inside and out. Vividly. Their thoughts and actions.
I like the way Sara Morsey is able to change her tone and feel for each character with a distinct and chilling ease. This is so well done!
Audra is my favorite character but Piper. Wow. Piper is so frightening and realistic.
I love this series and savoring every part of it. It's such a thrill ride. It keeps getting better and better. I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.
Avid reader (listener) and Audible Fan!
Book 2 in the trilogy~Eviscerating the Snake. The revenge continues and it is sometimes hard to tell who is the most evil. There are so many twists and turns, and the domino effect of revenge is devastating to so many innocent people. So far Olan and Piper are the King and Queen of sociopaths. I enjoyed ZERO BALANCE but not quite as much as ACCOUNTABLE TO NONE. Now moving on to the final book, ADJUSTING JOURNAL ENTRIES~need to know the conclusion of this fascinating series.

Never Ending Thrills
Yes, this story kept me om the edge of my seat. All the shocking twists & turns in it. Thrills non stop thru the entire story & of course more than 1 villain.
Ah, I love her voice! She has the ability to breathe life into a story making it feel more like a movie! She is very good at multiple believable voices & adds just the right amount of excitement, shock, surprise & so on in all the right places!
WOW, OMG this author really rocks!!! I wasn't disappointed in the plot. The author really believes in giving people their money's worth & then some!
This story is incredible! I had a feeling from the ending of book 1 that Piper was going to be scary. Piper is beyond scary! That woman is Psycho!!! I am floored by this 2nd book of this series. I enjoyed book 2 even more than book 1! I think in a few months, I am going to listen to these stories again as no matter how hard we try, we always miss some small details. I was really on the edge of my seat throughout this story. Every time a new villain was caught or killed, another appeared!!! I really hope Audra makes it! I just want to rip Nicole's head off! Kuddos to Ashely Fontainne for a story well done!
I love audiobooks!!!
I read this book originally on kindle. It is part of a three book series. I enjoyed the series, and thought it would be a safe thing to listen to with my preteen son on long car rides. He and I both have enjoyed Ashley's stories in the past. This one is particularly great, as it takes up a ton of time, and makes our four-plus hours in the car very enjoyable.
There are lots of memorable moments. Without giving away spoilers, I'd have to say, anything that occurred in the name of revenge.
Her smooth, sultry voice gives you a sense of well being that directly contradicts the nature of the book, and makes so much more creepy and enjoyable.
No, this book was not possible to listen in one sitting. It is 9 1/2 hours long.
Anyone who is a fan of long term revenge, suspense, drama, and bloody mayhem, will love this series! This is book 2, and a more in depth peek in to the minds of the characters.
If you like action & thrills & cliffhangers & that sitting on the edge of your seat feeling - this series is for you too! The suspense is incredible & I listen to it in audiobook.

NOTE: Strong language and violence.
If you are considering a job in an accounting firm, think twice and then again. If you’re still set on an accounting career – buy running shoes because you’ll need them, especially if you’re going to work at the prestigious firm of Winscott & Associates. With more twists and turns than a roller coaster, we find that the associates have darker pasts and futures than Audra Tanner ever suspected! Zero Balance: Book Two of Eviscerating the Snake is nerve wracking!
Audra Tanner stirred up the nest of vipers when she went after Olin Kemper and all the partners seeking revenge for her past rape. Their level of evilness and deceit is amazing! Seems the depth of this viper’s nest is unending. Steve, Audra’s new love, is beset with concern – can he protect this woman he has come to love? Can he figure out who’s who in this nest of snakes? The intrigue is just beginning!
Picking up where Ashely Fontainne left off in book 1, Olin Kemper is preparing to be tried and convicted for his various crimes including murder but not before he does some more plotting and planning. Life moves on and people assume their lives once again. A long forgotten Winscott Partner, Piper, has a few issues of her own so she eagerly joins the fray of deadly adversaries. The all-important question that must be asked is: Who is to be trusted?
Fontainne has woven an excellent thriller and suspense series. Her ability to introduce new characters and have them slide into the plot and the lives of the characters is artistic! While some characters are murdered off, it is done with a flair that Fontainne has mastered. I found myself sitting with tears rolling down my face damning her for daring to murder … but then she skillfully caught me up into something else and all was forgiven (sort of).
Fontainne’s writing style is smooth and methodical. Subtle hints are given but not truly revealed or even guessable until she drops the bombshell in your lap. She is a cunning writer, leaving nothing to chance and leading her reader’s right where she wants them.
Sara Morsey is excellent at narrating this series. She artfully draws the listener in with her voice and guides our emotions and interest with each word she speaks. She is clear and concise.
If I could give this book a 7 star review I would! However, I will give it the highest rating I can – 5 stars and highly recommend this series to anyone who loves suspense, thrillers and intrigue!
RMSW Press did an excellent job of production, there were no glitches or distractions.
