Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best seller.

The blockbuster Jack Reacher series that inspired two major motion pictures and the upcoming streaming series Reacher.

There’s deadly trouble in the corn country of Nebraska...and Jack Reacher walks right into it. First he falls foul of the Duncans, a local clan that has terrified an entire county into submission. But it’s the unsolved case of a missing child, already decades old, that Reacher can’t let go.

The Duncans want Reacher gone - and it’s not just past secrets they’re trying to hide. They’re awaiting a secret shipment that’s already late - and they have the kind of customers no one can afford to annoy. For as dangerous as the Duncans are, they’re just the bottom of a criminal food chain stretching halfway around the world.

For Reacher, it would have made much more sense to keep on going, to put some distance between himself and the hard-core trouble that’s bearing down on him. For Reacher, that was also impossible.

Take another thrill ride with Jack Reacher.

Don't know

What Jack told the motel cleaning lady what he thought her daughter would say to her to keep the mother from going in the barn.

Most definitely!, cry, angry, sad, glad!

Any additional comments?

So far our favorite book! because of how Jack got the town to take responsibility.

This mother's love was undying.

This story was much improved over the previous one. The mystery was fairly simple to figure out ( I read it in 2014 ), but the journey to it was engaging. I still have to give Dick Hill's narration effort a low score due to his habit of yelling in unnecessary places, but he has improved from 1 to 3 stars. So I do recommend this one. If you are looking for another engaging series try: Karin Slaughter's Will Tripp Series, and of course John Sandford's Prey Series.

Another Great Jack Reacher Novel

This is Lee Child doing what Lee Child does best. Jack Reacher hasn’t lost a step in this, trouble around every corner, novel. Set in the middle of nowhere with no assistance Jack reacher is left to his own devices and as normal, brute raw force. This is the first novel in the series that is a direct sequel to any of the others. This picks up immediately after the events of 61 Hours. This is perhaps, the books only drawback. If you have not read 61 hours then you would have no idea why he appeared at the beginning of this novel bruised, broken, and incapacitated. Also Jack Reacher‘s drive, besides the main storyline, is to get to Virginia to see someone. Without knowledge of the previous book, you would not know who she was or why she is significant in his life. Besides these two small facts the rest of the book is outstanding. Small-town mystery, in the grip of a down-home fear controlling family is the stage for this Midwest novel. Imagine living in a place where you had no opportunity to escape and no opportunity to live and thrive. Always under the watchful eye of a family that intends to always get their own way. The Duncans, using the fear from day to day and the sins of long ago to control every aspect of their county, Jack reacher stumbles into a situation that is “Worth Dying For”.

Could not stop listening.

This story pulls at your heart. I always like to think there is a good guy to rescue us. The base line of a mother losing a child and then discover the ugly side of people was vivid. Enjoy the read, but hang onto your emotions.

Great Book, Poor Recording

I always love the Jack Reacher books. The recording on this one bugged me a little, though, because there was a lot of mouth/saliva noise mixed in and I have Misophonia so it was rather unpleasant at times to listen to. Hopefully the recording for the next book isn’t like this one.
