How else can she be sure her protection is truly effective?

What she doesn't tell Reacher - but what he soon discovers - is that a very real and deadly team of assassins has just put the VP in their sights and will stop at nothing to realize their objective. These men have planned well, but they haven't planned on Reacher. For only Reacher has the head and the heart to corner his prey and bring them to justice - without fail.

Don't miss any of Jack Reacher's adventures.

What the Critics Say

“The book is a joyride for listeners, full of false leads, dead ends, concussive bursts of action, and characters who are fully realized and individual. This is as much fun as an audiobook performance can be.” (AudioFile)

“The sixth time's a charm for thriller meister Child, whose latest escapade starring ex-military cop Jack Reacher is handily his most accomplished and most compelling to date.” (Publisher’s Weekly)

“…a thriller of unequaled emotional depth.” (Booklist)

Good Jack Reacher as usual. Dick Hill does a good job for the male parts, but his female parts sound like sleezy, creepy old men! Please get a female to perform female parts of the story.

"Lee needs to do more research"
Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Dick Hill?

    Yes

Has Without Fail turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

Could you see Without Fail being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I have seen the Reacher movie, and listened to th first six books in the series, and I have to say they are all pretty much the same. Same characters, same basic situations and basically the same plots, just different locations. My biggest compliant however is with the attention to detail while describing weapons.

    Possible Spoiler Alert

During the climamatic ending when the bad guys have Reacher cornered, Child makes two glaring mistakes, one of which would have cost Reacher and his companion their lives. It has been proven that a hand gun magazine spring does not lose its integrity being fully loaded for long periods of time, even years. However, Reacher bets his life on this myth.

Secondly, when the bad guy pulls his Glock pistol, he clicked the safety off. Glock pistols are referred to as "Safe Action" pistols because the safetys are internal, and include a trigger safety. There is no external safety to click.

The whole scenario that lead to the conclusion was paper thin and the final ending was ludicrous. Will I listen to more Reacher novels? Probably. However, if you are looking for an alternate author, I highly recommend Vince Flynn and the Mitch Rapp series. His works are plausible, well researched and entertaining.

Lee captures the spirit of a true fictional hero. His stories of Jack Reacher cannot come fast enough.

    "Love Jack Reacher Stories"
Where does Without Fail rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a middle of the favorites list in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I always enjoy the background stories and this one has a lot of information about Jack's big brother Joe.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoy that these books are not in chronological order for the most part. It is enjoyable feeling the store evolve no matter what order you read them in.

    "Not Jack Reacher Quality"
Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Dick Hill?

I'd never buy another Lee Child book after this. Boring boring boring. After loving the first JR book I expected more of the same. This was full of nothing. Hardly any action, and tone and tons of boring analysing by a Jack Reacher who is nothing like the original.

Has Without Fail turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not in this genre, but I'll stay away from Lee Child forever. He obviously became one of those authors who thought that his first JR book gave him a license to get away with cr*p.

What three words best describe Dick Hill’s performance?

    good. decent, adequate

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Anger and disappointment

    Any additional comments?

    There's nothing left to say.

    "Very disappointing"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

It needed an ending without just no more writing. It did not seem to me the author had much idea where the book was going when he started writing.

Has Without Fail turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

    Jack Reacher

Was Without Fail worth the listening time?

No. I like some of Lee Child's books, but this must have been started late and written to meet a publishing deadline.

    "Talk about a mysoginistic pig!"
What disappointed you about Without Fail?

The story couldn't mention a female character without remarks of checking out her, umm, attributes, in a way that would get you at least slapped if not hit with a sexual harassment suit.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dick Hills narration is quite fitting to the detective genre. I enjoyed that at least.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I just couldn't finish it. Too much male chauvinist pig remarks.

    Any additional comments?

And they made a movie of this crap??????!!!!!!!????

I want to feel good when I complete a story & am a little harsh on depressing ones. There are a few sad ones that I love but not many.

    "Great Series"

This is just a very good series. The characters are interesting and Child always comes up with different and interesting plots. I always look forward to the next in the series and have yet to find them repetitious or dull. I am really enjoying the series and will finish it for sure unless something drastic happens.

    "Same old Jack Reacher"

You know what you will get with a Jack Reacher story, pretty formulaic. I will probably listen to another at some point- it's a good go-to- just not anything great.

"I am trying hard to like Jack Reacher"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I really miss Mitch Rapp and i am trying hard to find a replacement. I do think that Jack has the potential but the story is so slow, and long. It is getting better now that I manage to start the second part - but it was an effort to get here. Not sure I will be able to finish.

What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?

    Slow and not so interesting

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I like Dick Hill, he is ok

What character would you cut from Without Fail?

none in particular, just more actions

    Any additional comments?

I am seriously considering giving up on Jack Reacher's series. He is not even close to become my Mitch Rapp's replacement - maybe the Gray Man might.
