"Love Dick Francis, but this is only 2 chapters"

Two chapters of a book, and just ends with no resolution. The rest of the book is missing!

    "Wild Horses by dick francis"

Audible should not put up a book with excellent pedigree as a Dick Francis novel without making sure the whole audio story is uploaded. The rating given is strictly audibles and not attributable to the authors excellent work .If abridged means cutting out a CHUNK of the story line ,thereby rendering the whole experience an excercise in frustration . Not like audible at all .

"Loved this Book - Problems with the download fixed"

I purchased this book (despite reviews that said it contained only the first two chapters) hoping that the download problem had been fixed. To other potential buyers who might skip an enjoyable book over the potential problems, I am pleased to say I got the full book.

I am a big Dick Francis fan and have listened to many of his books (and read them all). I always enjoy the insights into unusual professions as well as the characterization and plot line. This book, whose main character is a movie director, continues that successful approach, intertwining the making of a movie with the revival of fears linked to the old death that is the subject of the film.

For potential buyers, I have two more notes:
1- The reader, according to the book itself, is Simon Prebble rather than Simon Jones, as listed in the information. I have not listened to all of this book yet, but have liked his rendition of other Francis books I have heard, including Proof, Decider and Banker.
2- The book is the UNabridged version, rather than the abridged (again according to the opening of the book reading; this is also consistent with the stated length.)

    "Wildly Exceptional"

Francis takes a half step away from his usual horse racing venue to write a complex story about making a movie of the murder? suicide? of a horse trainer's wife. It's an excellent who-dunnit (or didn't-dunnit) to the very end.

As usual, Simon Prebble (not Jones) gave an exceptional performance. AND, this book is Unabridged -- thank goodness!

"SIMON PREBBLE Takes Over Narration In Chapter 4"
Would you listen to Wild Horses again? Why?

It's a terrific story. Not a Perfect 5, truth be told I grade this novel a 4.7 because of the the narration confusion. When the audiobook begins, it is announced that SIMON PREBBLE is the narrator, for which I am overjoyed about the happy mistake Audible made. HOWEVER, Chapter 1 begins and it is Simon Jones. Chapter 4 begins and it is undeniably Simon Prebble and the audiobook from this listeners POV is upgraded by a country mile.

What was most disappointing about Dick Francis’s story?

    The first 3 Chapters.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Thomas Locks Out that Jack-Ass Peter, preventing him from stealing Valentine's Books, Diaries & Papers.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The first time we hear Lucy. The listener knows her father is guilty of something from his past, but sweet Lucy's enthusiasm to meet the star of the movie and actually be in the movie usurps her fathers' attempts to lie. I LOVED IT!

    Any additional comments?

I almost skipped this book because of who was narrating. I think both "SIMON'S" should share credit. Secondly, because AUDIBLE made it's 2nd mistake by calling this version of "Wild Horses" "ABRIDGED", which of course, it is NOT.

Hopefully, Audible can make the facts crystal clear to people, so while they are perusing this Dick Francis mystery the listener can make an informed choice.I had already read this Dick Francis' novel, "Wild Horses", so narration is EVERYTHING about an AUDIOBOOK In My Humble Opinion.

    Story
    "Let's Make a Racing Movie"

Dick Francis has always delighted me, and this tale is no exception. The setting is a motion picture location, and the story unfolds in a believable setting. The only caveat is that, unlike a classic mystery, the perpetrator is not introduced in the first third of the story - which moves the tale to the "procedural" genre a bit. Nevertheless, the characters are real and rich and we are taken for quite a ride.

    "Thunderous applause!"
What made the experience of listening to Wild Horses the most enjoyable?

Being an insider in the making of a movie

What other book might you compare Wild Horses to and why?

Not sure if there are any to compare. The subject matter was quite different from any I have read/listened too. Very good

    Which scene was your favorite?

The ending, of course, the wild horses on the beach!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It did give me an ah-ha! moment for sure

    Any additional comments?

Dick Francis books take you there; to a part of the world that has many other facets that one might be surprised by. The plots strong as are the characters & it never lets you down.
