Publisher's summary

Danger stalks Lucas Davenport at work and all too close to home, in the superlative new thriller by the number-one New York Times best-selling author. For 20 years, John Sandford's novels have been beloved for their "ingenious plots, vivid characters, crisp dialogue and endless surprises" ( The Washington Post), and nowhere are those more in evidence than in the sudden twists and shocks of Wicked Prey.

The Republicans are coming to St. Paul for their convention. Throwing a big party is supposed to be fun, but crashing the party are a few hard cases the police would rather have stayed away. Chief among them is a crew of professional stick-up men who've spotted several lucrative opportunities, ranging from political moneymen with briefcases full of cash to that armored-car warehouse with the weakness in its security system.

All that is headache enough for Lucas Davenport - but what's about to hit him is even worse. A while back, a stray bullet put a pimp and petty thief named Randy Whitcomb in a wheelchair, and ever since, the man has been nursing his grudge into a full head of psychotic steam. He blames Davenport for the bullet, but it's no fun just shooting him. That wouldn't be painful enough. Not when Davenport has a pretty 14-year-old adopted daughter that Whitcomb can target instead.

And then there's the young man with the .50 caliber sniper rifle and the right-wing-crazy background, roaming through a city filled with the most powerful politicians on earth....

Solve another case with Lucas Davenport.

Another Great Read

I enjoyed this book , it was brilliantly written, I read some reviews that talked about fillers all stories have fillers that’s what helps us relate to the characters

Best Davenport book so far!!!!

John Sandford just keeps getting better with each book. The character development is masterful. I love the way he has three different plots going and keeps them intertwined. Can’t wait to start the next book.

Released in Sandford's 20th year as a novelist

I listen to all of the novels in the Lucas Davenport series and the Virgil Flowers series. This 2009 novel shows John Sandford maturing as a novelist as Lucas Davenport becomes a more complex character as he has to be concerned with members of his family (the maturing process began in Book 13 in the series). Sandford started writing novels that genuinely deserved 5 stars beginning at Book 14. This novel does not introduce his adopted daughter Letty, but it is the first where her role is significant. This is an excellent modern detective novel, but it does not reach 5 stars. Richard Ferrone narrates well as always.

Another Winner in the "Prey" Series

I'm a huge fan of the Lucas Davenport books, and "Wicked Prey" did not disappoint me. Sandford continued forward some of the sideline stories in past books, and added some new twists in this one. If you like John Sandford's style of writing, you won't be didapointed with this one.

Can't gen enough of Lucas Davenport & crew

Absolutely loved this one! Typical twists and turns with multiple characters. Just when you think you are ahead of the plot, another turn trips you up. A great read....the unabridged version is super.

Good as always

I laugh at Lucas dealing with the women in his life. The only people who can get him over a barrel. The rest of it was the usual good stuff.

Great narration as usual.

I love these books.

Sandford Fans Will Love This!

I find that a series can become stale, but this most recent "Prey" novel is great. He has brought in a new young character who keeps Lucas Davenport on his toes. Definitely worth the listen!

Interesting story line

Little weaker than usual. Like Lettie’s development. Loved her first book awaiting her next. Like the interplay between her step parents and her. RF did his usual outstanding job of making these novels live and develop to it’s fullest. JS came up with another creative and intriguing storyline, even though a little far fetched with talking mirror images and gothic scenes. Though I went to visit my granddaughter on her college campus and saw many young gothic clad men and women heading for a rave event. Pretty far out for an even old hippie like me.
